A BBC Radio 4 full-cast dramatisation of Simon Brett's entertaining crime novel, starring Bill Nighy. Charles Paris has been resting for quite a while, so he's relieved when he is cast as Ghost of Hamlet's Father and First Gravedigger in a touring production of Hamlet. But rehearsals are a little tense - the lead roles of Hamlet and Ophelia are played by a reality TV contestant and TV talent show winner respectively, and their opinions on celebrity and the theatre differ somewhat from those of the more experienced members of the cast.

Like a well-crafted stage play, Just Passin' Thru delivers one suspenseful scene after another. But in this historic setting a store on the Appalachian Trail called Mountain Crossings the characters who show up are no fictional creations. Like any good drama, there are the good guys (and gals) and the weirdos, too. Some show up once (and that’s enough), and some appear again and again. But all are united by two things: the author’s story-capturing talent, and whatever it is that lures them to attempt (or conquer) a 2,200-mile path that climbs and plummets from Georgia to Maine.

Fantastic Tale

What made the experience of listening to Just Passin' Thru the most enjoyable?
Very well written. I had no problem visualizing the delightful characters described in the book. Funny, suspenseful at times and touching by the end. This is a first class book.
What did you like best about this story?
The book is ultimately about people, and it doesn't come up short on the interesting characters. A delightful glimpse into the life of the trail culture and just people in general. Who knew they could be so interesting, but they are indeed.
Have you listened to any of Jones Allen’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
My first time listening to Jones Allen. He provided a great performance. Differences in the voices, but not over the top. I never had a problem knowing what was going on.

I highly recommend this book.
