Historia
October 18, 2019. Cristina Rivera Garza travels from her home in Texas to Mexico City, in search of an old, unresolved criminal file. “My name is Cristina Rivera Garza,” she writes in her request to the attorney general, “and I am writing to you as a relative of Liliana Rivera Garza, who was murdered on July 16, 1990.” It’s been twenty-nine years. Twenty-nine years, three months, and two days since Liliana was murdered by an abusive ex-boyfriend.

Simply Beautiful
Revisado: 05-20-24
Through the process of healing, Cristina shares her sister with us. Not only do we learn who she was, what made her unique and ultimately what lead to her death, but we learn about the interesting dynamic they shared as sisters.
I know I will find myself reading this story again and again.

Historia
Maine, 1789: When the Kennebec River freezes, entombing a man in the ice, Martha Ballard is summoned to examine the body and determine cause of death. As a midwife and healer, she is privy to much of what goes on behind closed doors in Hallowell. Her diary is a record of every birth and death, crime and debacle that unfolds in the close-knit community. Months earlier, Martha documented the details of an alleged rape committed by two of the town’s most respected gentlemen—one of whom has now been found dead in the ice.

Wonderful Story
Revisado: 04-01-24
I absolutely adored Martha. Not only was she an incredible midwife, but through her journey and well crafted story, she shone a light on many other women in the novel. Beautiful interpretation of life post- revolutionary war for women.

Historia
High-powered businesswoman Lana Rubicon has a lot to be proud of: her keen intelligence, impeccable taste, and the L.A. real estate empire she’s built. But when she finds herself trapped 300 miles north of the city, convalescing in a sleepy coastal town with her adult daughter Beth and teenage granddaughter Jack, Lana is stuck counting otters instead of square footage—and hoping that boredom won’t kill her before the cancer does.

Great read!
Revisado: 09-14-23
The beginning, as in the first few pages did not spark my interest, however as the story continues I rather enjoyed it. I wish there was a little more attention to some of the minor characters who later become essential to the story line. However, overall a good read (or listen).

Una historia conmovedora
Revisado: 08-26-23
