Historia
At times stern, at other times patient, at times perceptive, at other times in sad denial, Olive Kitteridge, a retired schoolteacher, deplores the changes in her little town of Crosby, Maine, and in the world at large, but she doesn’t always recognize the changes in those around her: a lounge musician haunted by a past romance; a former student who has lost the will to live; Olive’s own adult child, who feels tyrannized by her irrational sensitivities; and her husband, Henry, who finds his loyalty to his marriage both a blessing and a curse.

Depressing
Revisado: 11-15-24
The story reminded me of The Grapes of Wrath, it starts off somewhat sad and with each turning of the page, the character's situation just gets more bleak. Every new character introduced, has a depressing life. At the end of each character's story, the individual just accepts that life is not going to get any better or dies. I made myself listen to the very end, hoping for a morale to the story, but was highly disappointed.

Seventeen-year-old Lenni Pettersson lives on the Terminal Ward at the Glasgow Princess Royal Hospital. Though the teenager has been told she’s dying, she still has plenty of living to do. Joining the hospital’s arts and crafts class, she meets the magnificent Margot, an 83-year-old, purple-pajama-wearing, fruitcake-eating rebel, who transforms Lenni in ways she never imagined. As their friendship blooms, a world of stories opens for these unlikely companions who, between them, have been alive for one hundred years.

100% worth listening to.
Revisado: 11-08-22
The 2 main characters were very well developed. Lenni was funny, complex and intriguing. Her outlook on her situation made me sad at times and also had me admiring her tenacity. Margo was endearing. I would have loved to have her as my Grandmom. She had such a full life for someone, who like many of us, are hesitant to take risks.
The narrators portrayed the characters well.

Overall story was captivating and light hearted, which is just what I was looking for. The narrator however sounded like a robot. I would have liked to have heard more fluctuation in her voice

Historia
It's just a small story really, about, among other things, a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery. Set during World War II in Germany, Markus Zusak's groundbreaking new novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich. Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can't resist: books.

The story is a different look at Nazi Germany during WWII. It is from the perspective of a young German girl. The narration was wonderful, so good that I am going to look for more audio books specifically narrated by him.

The story line kept you hooked from the first chapter to the last words. Hoffman painted the scenes and characters with her detailed descriptions. I enjoyed the book.
