Historia
The Second World Wars examines how combat unfolded in the air, at sea, and on land to show how distinct conflicts among disparate combatants coalesced into one interconnected global war. Drawing on 3,000 years of military history, Victor Davis Hanson argues that despite its novel industrial barbarity, neither the war's origins nor its geography were unusual. Nor was its ultimate outcome surprising. The Axis powers were well prepared to win limited border conflicts, but once they blundered into global war, they had no hope of victory.

This was the best WW2 book I have read. It focused on analysis of the war itself rather than individual battles or campaigns. I loved every minute of it.

Historia
Ground zero for a nuclear war was just over an hour northeast of Frankfurt, Germany. The small town of Fulda is nestled at the base of a natural gap in the hilly wooded terrain of West Germany and was a corridor between East and West Germany. Referred to as the Fulda Gap, this corridor was very likely the path the Warsaw forces and the Soviet Union would have taken to invade Europe.

Revisado: 03-15-23
Poor writing. Terrible narrator. This book is a collection of exaggerated Army stories. It's like getting caught at the end of the bar at a VFW hall with a veteran who embellishes his boring stories to make himself a super soldier.

When first published to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Saturday Night Live, Live from New York was immediately proclaimed the best book ever produced on the landmark and legendary late-night show. In their own words, unfiltered and uncensored, a dazzling galaxy of trail-blazing talents recalled three turbulent decades of on-camera antics and off-camera escapades.

This Book meanders and repeats itself.
This is an excellent topic.
Saturday Night Live is a cultural phenomenon. It deserves a serious treatment. It feels like 8 hours could have been edited out and the book would have still given SNL its due respect.
The last 4 hours of the book were a love letter to Lorne Michaels. It was never ending! So dull!

Ejoyed this book.
This was a very poignant portrayal of Stevie Ray Vaughan's life.
I have been a big Stevie Ray fan for a long time. I thought I knew everything about SRV. I learned many new things.
I was at the last Stevie Ray Show. The Chapter on Alpine Valley and the crash brought back emotions I haven't felt in years. it was as if I was experiencing that terrible night over again.

Historia
In this illuminating and deeply moving memoir, a former American military intelligence officer goes beyond traditional Cold War espionage tales to tell the true story of her family - of five women separated by the Iron Curtain for more than 40 years and their miraculous reunion after the fall of the Berlin Wall. A personal look at a tenuous era that divided a city and a nation and continues to haunt us, Forty Autumns is an intimate and beautifully written story of courage, resilience, and love.

I loved this book.
I patrolled the West German border with East Germany and Czechoslovakia as a member of the U..S. Army. When I was on patrol, I would often wonder about the lives of the people on the other side of the wall. This book answers my questions. Thanks to Nina Wellner for her excellent book.

Historia
In 1893, the 27.5 million visitors to the Chicago World’s Fair feasted their eyes on the impressive architecture of the White City, lit at night by thousands of electric lights. In addition to marveling at the revolutionary exhibits, most visitors discovered something else: beyond the fair’s 633 acres lay a modern metropolis that rivaled the world’s greatest cities. The Columbian Exposition marked Chicago’s arrival on the world stage, but even without the splendor of the fair, 1893 would still have been Chicago’s greatest year.

Historia
On a hot day in July 1919, five black youths went swimming in Lake Michigan, unintentionally floating close to the white beach. An angry white man began throwing stones at the boys, striking and killing one. Racial conflict on the beach erupted into days of urban violence that shook the city of Chicago to its foundations. This mesmerizing narrative draws on contemporary accounts as it traces the roots of the explosion that had been building for decades in race relations, politics, business, and clashes of culture.

Historia
The Haymarket Affair came about through a chain of events which took place before the demonstrations actually happened. The Civil War was a major event in regards to the history of America, because it played a major role in the way that the country progressed. This war was a long and bloody battle which was responsible for draining both the American population and economy. After the Civil War ended, the country went into a depression known as the Depression of 1873-1879.

It is very curious to me how the narration made it through editing. The narrator pronounced Illinois as Illi-NOISE. How does this happen in a book about Illinois?!!?

Historia
Although it's no longer well known as a flashpoint, few things were as controversial during the late 19th century as the Haymarket Affair. Depending on one's perspective, the riots and the violence that ensued were the result of anarchist terrorists attacking law enforcement authorities with a homemade bomb that was detonated during a large public event, killing a police officer and wounding several more.
