Historia
With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

Near Perfect
Revisado: 11-07-17
Any fan of WWII historical fiction needs to read this book. I shed too many tears to count. It sits alongside All The Light We Cannot See and A Man Called Ove as one of my favourites. Beautifully narrated, albeit a little slow, so I listened to it at 1.25 speed, and it was perfect. Seriously, read this book.

A Wonderful Debut
Revisado: 04-13-17
A heartbreaking story of a family of polish Jews, and what they were forced to endure in WW2. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and recommend it to anyone who enjoys historical fiction of non-fiction. The narration was slow, but after I sped it up to 1.25x, I had no problem with it. Wonderful debut novel by Georgia Hunter. Well done.

Born a generation apart and with very different ideas about love and family, Mariam and Laila are two women brought jarringly together by war, by loss, and by fate. As they endure the ever escalating dangers around them, in their home as well as in the streets of Kabul, they come to form a bond that makes them both sisters and mother-daughter to each other, and that will ultimately alter the course not just of their own lives but of the next generation.

A Refreshing Coming of Age
Revisado: 11-16-16
I found it a bit slow going, but halfway through, I really started to enjoy it. A bit of realism, a bit of
Magic, with some laughs and drama intertwined.
The ending of the book is powerful. It forces you to look at your win life, and reminisce about your own "coming of age" and floods your mind with memories, and thoughts about what is to come. As for the narration, George Newbern never fails to deliver a masterful performance.

Even though I found the storyline quite predictable, I still found it enjoyable, and was excited to get back in the car and continue listening. Zach Villa does an excellent job narrating, positively contributing to the overall experience. I would recommend for a nice quick read.

A Gripping Memoir
Revisado: 07-21-16
This follow up to Greyhound (which was fantastic) was an unexpected account of Sebastian's life as he grew into a person that you wouldn't have expected. Even though he wasn't the same person as I had expected, it didn't matter. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and hope there is a third journal entry into Sebastian's life, and where he goes next.
Also, the narration was superb. Nick Podehl did a fantastic job in both books. If you're thinking about buying this book, do it, but download Greyhound first. You'll be glad you did.

Historia
Sebastien Ranes’s single mom and her feckless boyfriend can’t be bothered to take care of a stuttering 12-year-old. Banished to live with his grandmother on the far side of the country, the boy can barely understand a bus schedule when he gets dumped at the Greyhound station in Stockton, California. Given $35 and a one-way ticket to Altoona, Pennsylvania, Sebastien must cross the country - alone, without a clue how to fend for himself. Filled with youthful anger and naïveté, Sebastien heads out into the "Morning in America" of Ronald Reagan’s 1980s.

A Refreshingly Satisfying Story
Revisado: 07-11-16
After reading reviews, I had a feeling I would enjoy this book. I was not disappointed. Right from the beginning, your heart breaks for this boy, and an unlikely friendship forms between two people who are not so unlike eachother, despite being from very different backgrounds, and a wonderful story ensues. As the book ended, I found myself happy, but wishing there was a sequel. A book like this one would make a wonderful movie. Loved it.

Historia
For as long as anyone can remember, Britt-Marie has been an acquired taste. It's not that she's judgmental or fussy or difficult - she just expects things to be done in a certain way. A cutlery drawer should be arranged in the right order, for example - forks, knives, then spoons. We're not animals, are we? But behind the passive-aggressive, socially awkward, absurdly pedantic busybody is a woman who has more imagination, bigger dreams and a warmer heart than anyone around her realizes.

An Enjoyable Read
Revisado: 05-27-16
After falling in love with Backman's A Man Called Ove, I decided to read all of his books that I could get my hands on. This one was enjoyable. It was a bit slow going at first, and the character voice changes were a bit on the ear piercing side ;) but around halfway through, I found myself yearning to listen and yearning to find out what happens as the story unfolds. I won't spoil the ending, but even though I enjoyed it, I was a bit disappointed. Overall, I recommend anyone who enjoyed Ove also give this a listen as well.

Meet Ove. He's a curmudgeon - the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him "the bitter neighbor from hell". But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness.

Absolutely loved it!
Revisado: 05-12-16
There wasn't a moment in this book where I was disinterested. The chapters are quite short, so it moves quickly, and I quite enjoyed that aspect. The narration was terrific. His expressions made the experience that much more wonderful. It made me genuinely belly laugh on numerous occasions, and also made me cry an equal amount of occasions. The ending of this story was an incredibly emotional and beautiful experience. The only part I disliked, was that it ended. Thank you for this wonderful read.

Marie-Laure lives with her father in Paris near the Museum of Natural History, where he works as the master of its thousands of locks. When she is six, Marie-Laure goes blind and her father builds a perfect miniature of their neighborhood so she can memorize it by touch and navigate her way home. When she is 12, the Nazis occupy Paris and father and daughter flee to the walled citadel of Saint-Malo, where Marie-Laure’s reclusive great-uncle lives in a tall house by the sea. With them they carry what might be the museum’s most valuable and dangerous jewel.

Beautiful..
Revisado: 05-05-16
A beautiful experience to listen to. The shifts to different times are not difficult to keep track of, and Zachary Appelman was a terrific narrator. There was no need for him to change his voice for the array of characters. The slightest pitch change in his voice was enough to let you feel what each character was saying. The way in which Anthony Doerr describes things, to the smallest detail, paints a multitude of pictures in your head, and this beautifully written book kept my attention for the entire time. I had to fight back tears for the entire final hour of the book. An instant favourite.
