I love it!
Revisado: 02-22-24
The first time I saw The Edge of Destruction I was son confused, because it was so different from the first two stories (yes, I saw Classic Who in chronological order to begin with). But this novelisation is why novelisations exist! Not only does it explain the story in a great and more approachable way, than the sometime too-deconstructed tv-version, but it also goes deeper and give extra scenes, that ties everything together masterfully! And William Russell’s voice is just great for audiobooks!
Four to Doomsday is the worst of the stories, in my opinion – and it is still a 3.5 (neither story nor Matthew Waterhouse fully live up to the greatness of the others) All of which are 4s and 5s in both story and narration.

Historia
Ancient Egyptian civilization is so grand our minds sometimes have difficulty adjusting to it. It lasted 3,000 years, longer than any other on the planet. Its Great Pyramid of Cheops was the tallest building in the world until well into the 19th century and remains the only Ancient Wonder still standing. And it was the most technologically advanced of the ancient civilizations, with the medical knowledge that made Egyptian physicians the most famous in the world.

Informative and exciting
Revisado: 11-07-22
This course is just what I look for in a Great Course; a professor who is a great narrator, an interesting and intriguing topic, and a course that takes you from novice to (almost) expert. The layout of the course is well thought-out and every chapter makes sense and aids in furthering the listeners understanding of the topic. I knew next-to-nothing about Ancient Egypt when I started, but I’ve just finished a book about Jean-François Champollion, and I really enjoyed how Brier used a chapter in telling this part of the modern view of ancient Egypt.

The Early Middle Ages-the years from A.D. 650 to 1000-were crucial to Europe's future social and political development. These 24 lectures trace a journey from Scandinavia across northern and central Europe to the farthest reaches of the Byzantine and Islamic empires, providing an exciting new look an era often simply called the "Dark Ages."

Good, but with some errors
Revisado: 07-01-21
I am by no means an expert in medieval times, but I do have a degree in History and I am Scandinavian, so although I did enjoy the course I did find a few weird statements and an error or two concerning my own history, so I wonder how many there are over all, but of course this is mainly meant for entertainment so I will accept some errors or misleading statements, but just for my own piece of mind let me state as an absolute truth; Scandinavians do not use waterplanes to get around because the land is impossible to traverse! Denmark is flat as a pancake, and Norway, Sweden and Finland have loads of mountains that have been blown a hole in to make roads, or that they climb up and down by road, Greenland is ice, snow and mountains, so again no need for waterplanes, and Iceland is basically one big vulcanic rock. The Faroe islands are maybe the only place in Scandinavia that waterplanes might have some use, but I've never heard of it. Also he makes the statement "many of us have heard that history never repeats itself, but unfortunately in this case it did", history always repeats itself! It is basically the only constant throughout human history!

DNF This book would not stand for #MeTo
Revisado: 10-16-20
I really dont get the plot of the oh, so beautiful girl, with the super model looks and the super hacker talent, who just ignores the men objectifying her all around, I would hate being treated like that, and honestly doubt there that are women, who no man can stand for, not because of anything she is, just her looks - even when she doesnt make an effort. And if there really are women like that, then dont accept to be treated like that, having men just talking over your head about how amazing you look, while ignoring what you are saying, or that you are even a human capable of hearing and understanding what they are saying. Don’t accept being treated like that, don’t treat women like that – and most of all, dear author DON’T MAKE THIS OK, don’t write books to young girls and women telling them how beauty can get you anything – except being treated like more than a sex-object by men! That is not ok – not even in low-brain-romances like this!

Historia
London is one of the great cities of Europe, a center of commerce, art, and science for more almost 2,000 years. Visitors today are treated to world-class museums, pulsing nightlife, and fine dining. But one does not have to search far beyond this prosperous and modern façade to glimpse an older and more unusual London; in fact everywhere one looks, ancient traditions and old patterns emerge.

Revisado: 07-17-18
Ok, so I didn't expect a full history of mysterious London in one hour, but this was very scattered and superficial. There was no continuity in the chosen stories, and the stories themselves were just to short and vague to give any real information.
Furthermore the narrator sounded like an American speak-n-spell...

Historia
October 1944: as World War II draws towards its conclusion, a Nazi defeat begins to seem almost inevitable. But that might be about to change.... Two intruders are captured in the grounds of Colditz Castle, the most secure POW camp in Germany. At first the guards think they're dealing with British spies. But the strangers arrived in an advanced travelling machine, the likes of which they've never seen before. With this Tardis in their hands, the Third Reich might triumph after all.

A true gem!
Revisado: 05-05-18
I really love how Ace develops in this story! And the Seventh Doctor is just strange enough to be himself, without it being too "Greatest Show in the Galaxy"! Plus, the added bonus of hearing David Tennant as a Nazi.
I would recommend this to people starting out in the world of Doctor Who Audio Adventures and books, because it really is just like a great episode; a super TARDIS grew, an intriguing setting, the Doctor at his best, the companion being allowed to grow on their own, and a well thought plot.

so so
Revisado: 12-14-17
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
yep, because they would cut some of the white-noise "drama" which this book could really do without.
Any additional comments?
On the one hand, I did enjoy the everyday-feel of the story, and the development of the conversations between Payton and Sidney remained me of how hard it was to find something to talk to my brother about when he called from Afghanistan only to find that he enjoyed talking about random TV stuff.
On the other hand, the whole Aims thing was just too long in the making and felt kind of forced to create a feeling of foreboding that never really came to the great event it threatened... And the whole omg I like my friend's brother is just so overplayed and it didn't really add anything else than a few more pages of white noise.

Revisado: 06-08-17
This mix of the original sounds and a voice-over provides a great opportunity for experiencing the lost stories of classic Who. If it wasn't the original sound with the actual cast I'm not sure if it would be worth it, but as it is I'm a fan, and I'm ready to explore more lost stories this way.

Good and bad
Revisado: 03-20-17
There where some good stories, some great, some ok, and some not so good. The same goes for the narrators.
Sleepers in the dust was the best of all, with a great story and awesome narration by Arthur Darvill! That story gets 5 stars in all three from me :)

An approved textbook at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry since its first publication, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is an indispensable guide to the magical beasts of the wizarding world. It showcases a menagerie of magical creatures, explained enchantingly by noted magizoologist, Newt Scamander, who you may remember from the film series of the same name.

Need more Newt Scamander in the world!
Revisado: 03-20-17
This book is just awesome! The only good thing about it being fictional is that I seriously doubt I could find room enough for all the creatures I want in my small flat – except of cause if I got a suitcase like Newts :) I really wish that JK Rowling would write more about Newt Scamander and his adventures! I know that there are movies coming, but she really has a way with words that makes me wish I could read no only Newt story, but any story taking place in her universe really!
Eddie Redmayne is great as Newt, and in general I really wish he would make more audiobooks.
