Historia
Hawkins, Indiana: For most, it’s simply another idyllic, manicured all-American town. But for Eddie Munson, it’s like living in a perpetual Tomb of Horrors. Luckily, he has only a few more months to survive at Hawkins High. And what is senior year, really, but killing time between Dungeons & Dragons sessions with the Hellfire Club and gigs with his band, Corroded Coffin?

Weird but Fun
Revisado: 06-20-24
The characterization in this book was fabulous. However jumping the shark straight into a heist caught me off guard. I'd just enjoy the story and not get hung up on the rest.

Heralded as an instant classic of fantasy literature, Maguire has written a wonderfully imaginative retelling of The Wizard of Oz told from the Wicked Witch's point of view. More than just a fairy tale for adults, Wicked is a meditation on the nature of good and evil.

Great narration, shoddy story.
Revisado: 12-15-21
I want to start out by saying the narrator was fabulous, really. If it weren't for his diction and character voices I truly don't know how I would have finished this book.
The book on the other hand was extremely difficult to get through. The language used was beautiful, and actually kind of reminiscent of the original Oz books. The story , however; was dry and bogged down with unnecessary details in politics, religion, and sex.
I've never seen/listened to the musical so this was my first exposure to the story. I felt as though I didn't know what was going on for most of the time. I could understand the author wanting to build up a world where the politics of rights and rulings were involved. I can even understand creating religion for the characters. Even having the characters be passionate about these things are fine but I felt less like I was listening to a story and more like I was listening to a dissertation.
And don't get me started on the sex. This is clearly written for adults, yes, but the way in which anything sexual was written was nauseating. The author's fixation on certain things through his characters was too much and terrible to sit through. And truthfully I feel that maybe only 20% of the sexual content was even needed for character development and story.
I truthfully didn't even feel like I was hearing a cohesive story for the most part, the last chapter had the most for me and could have been a book in itself.
All in all if you're looking to get lost in a more adult Oz this isn't it. At least not for me.

A truly entrancing experience
Revisado: 10-14-21
I couldn't put this (audio)book down, and truly it made me really care for and admire Cassandra as a person. I loved that it was her telling me her life story, something that I didn't know was filled with so many incredible, interesting, and sometimes unbelievable details! I have more respect for her as a person and performer than ever after reading this memoir and can honestly say it's going to make me want a physical copy of the book. I also appreciate how she presented serious topics as well as having a good laugh at others. This is one of the best memoirs I've read yet!
