Historia
The planet of Kiln is where the tyrannical Mandate keeps its prison colony, and for inmates, the journey there is always a one-way trip. One such prisoner is Professor Arton Daghdev, xeno-ecologist and political dissident. Soon after arrival, he discovers that Kiln has a secret. Humanity is not the first intelligent life to set foot there. In the midst of a ravenous, chaotic ecosystem are the ruins of a civilization, but who were the vanished builders and where did they go?

Historia
When the robotic god of Khuon Mo went mad, it destroyed everything it touched. It killed its priests, its city, and all its wondrous works. But in its final death throes, the god brought one thing back to life: its favorite child, Sunai. For the seventeen years since, Sunai has walked the land like a ghost, unable to die, unable to age, and unable to forget the horrors he's seen. He's run as far as he can from the wreckage of his faith, drowning himself in drink, drugs, and men.

great story, performance need improvement
Revisado: 09-16-24
a great tech fantasy story with a decent love story and great characters.
the performance is fine, but with a book who's written form likely utilizes font to help distinguish the many variating perspectives of the characters, the voice artists rarely distinguishes it outside of dialogue lines which makes the book far more confusing than it needs to be

I just love the universe, the characters, and the insights into different gender systems. I don't know if there will be more in this universe but I can hope.

Historia
First Contact has not been going well. The nations of Earth are rapidly militarizing against the arrival of the Superorganism, an alien civilization that promises to destroy humanity before it can develop into a real threat. The Superorganism has done it before–to their distant transient relatives–and they could easily do it again. But the alien Ampersand and his human interpreter Cora Sabino are done with trying to save humanity from both the Superorganism and itself; to them, this is a civilization that does not deserve to be saved.

retcon let down
Revisado: 05-11-24
retconning the odd scifi (possibly creator) entity into a stand in for the Christian/Catholic God (but less picky about sins) was a choice. especially to just bring in the parts that are logically inconstant and justifying it with statements of their ways are higher and therefore incomprehensible.
even more so the downgrade of stakes from universe to just humanity as it stood in that day.
