Ray Porter is awesome as always. Could be less gratuitous with its violence. I know it's a Joe Lesger book, but jeez. Kinda lessens the intensity when every chapter tries to convey the worst possible thing happening to the best possible people. I digress, it's still a Joe Ledger book, it was awesome, thrilling, cool story, interesting science, great action. Cant wait for the next installment!

Ray Porter kills it again in this spec-ops/supernatural thriller. I love Joe Ledger, and while Sigma Force, Seal Team 666, and MHI are well done examples of this combo military thriller meets fantasy genre, Onset delivers that same X-Factor you get from Maberry's work. Great character arcs, touching moments, and masterfully visualized action. I am certainly invested in the exploits of David White and Onset, can't wait to read them all!

Just...bad.

Really wanted to like it, gave it a chance. The protagonist is just irritating with really no redeemable qualities. She is skeevy, manipulative, and even when she tries to do the right thing, her general lack of intelligence gets her into trouble. Being written from the first person, this is not the immediate impression one would get from Jazz, she thinks she is hilarious and clever, but just leaves you wondering "Am I supposed to be on her side?"
I typically like hard-sci-fi that actually walks me through the technical stuff ( The Expanse, Joe Ledger, etc), and much of the world building descriptions of how Artemis was conceived was interesting. It failed to retain my interest with repetition of facts covered, different welding techniques, and general minutia of shit that effected the story 0%.
It is hard to write a good one off scifi novel, not impossible, but I know it is difficult to establish characters, history, technological oddities, culture, introduce conflict, and resolve in a single book. Maybe its not that bad, it just severely fell short of expectations. Couldnt bring myself to finish it.

I f-ing love this series!

As far as Joe Ledger books are concerned, this one seemed slow, but I never lost interest. Amazing research has been done to produce this book and others in the series, but all of that would be for not if you didn't care about the characters. Mayberry has made me thoroughly care for the characters and the calamities they face. can't get enough of Joe Frieking Ledger!

such a blast of a story! just reference after reference of iconic video game and pop culture history, all strung together in a very satisfying story. and wil wheaton killed it, just saying.

Jefferson Mayes, again, offers a stunning read to this great and in depth series. This book was a lot more political and slightly less eventful than the previous 5, but still a great stepping stone into the development of the galaxy and where these long beloved characters are going. cant wait for book 7!
