5-Star Podcast Until Drone Episode
Revisado: 01-23-25
This is one of my favorite podcasts that I listen to all the time and I always come away feeling more positive and more enlightened. But the drone podcast was off-topic and clearly revealed your political leanings. It was everything from the Republican playbook on the drone sightings, straight-up Fox News and NewsMax. This is not a news podcast. I don’t listen to your podcast to hear the news, I listen to your podcast to escape the news! I’m incredibly disappointed that you’d do a podcast like this and I can’t imagine why you’d want to alienate such a large percentage of your listeners.

Helped Relieve My Guilt
Revisado: 01-13-25
This book is incredibly helpful and insightful in so many ways. But one way it really helped me is in dealing with my guilt over my dog’s death. My sweet boy was an obnoxious little terrier who I loved to bits. However, I often lamented over what a pain in the ass he was being such a high maintenance little dog. Then on the morning of election day, I woke up to pools of blood all over the floor and rushed him to the ER where he died a few hours later. In the book, Mel talks about how it’s totally normal to love someone and be irritated by them at the same time, and she gave examples of this in her own family. I never thought of it that way. I’ve been racked with guilt over this and didn’t know how to reconcile it in my mind. Now I understand. It actually made me cry when I heard Mel‘s words on this. It makes perfect sense and it really helped ease my mind. Now I’m contemplating my unrealistic expectations and coming to grips with the idea that my loved ones find me to be a pain in the ass sometimes, just as I do them, and that it is all perfectly normal. Until hearing this, I suppose I thought it was wrong and disloyal to think anything negative about a loved one and now I’m realizing what an impossible expectation that is. Thank you, Mel.

Ridiculously Juvenile
Revisado: 12-12-24
Shallow characters with virtually no depth. A story that goes on and on ad nauseam about a high school incident. One of the worst books I’ve listened to in a long time and do not recommend.

Historia
Olivia McAfee knows what it feels like to start over. Her picture-perfect life—living in Boston, married to a brilliant cardiothoracic surgeon, raising their beautiful son, Asher—was upended when her husband revealed a darker side. She never imagined that she would end up back in her sleepy New Hampshire hometown, living in the house she grew up in and taking over her father’s beekeeping business. Lily Campanello is familiar with do-overs, too. When she and her mom relocate to Adams, New Hampshire, for her final year of high school, they both hope it will be a fresh start.

Historia
New England, 2022. Three years ago, single mother Mallory Dunne received the telephone call every parent dreads—her ten-year-old son, Sam, had been airlifted from summer camp with acute poisoning from a toxic death cap mushroom, leaving him fighting for his life. Now, searching for the donor kidney that will give her son a chance for a normal life, Mallory’s forced to confront two harrowing secrets from her past: her mother’s adoption from an infamous Irish orphanage in 1952, and her own all-consuming summer romance fourteen years earlier with her childhood best friend, Monk Adams.

Big Disappointment
Revisado: 07-25-24
I normally love Beatriz Williams but this book is a big disappointment. The protagonist is so unlikable that it was impossible to root for her—clueless, narcissistic and narrated with an annoying voice. It’s unfortunate because the storyline is excellent.

Every Woman Needs This Book!
Revisado: 06-07-24
Oh how I wish I knew all of this when I was younger! As it is, I’m learning it at 53 after being recently divorced. Listening to Margarita is like having a friend by your side. She guides you with practical advice infused with a steady stream of humor. She’s empowering to women without bashing men. This book imparts the kind of advice that’s worthy of hearing over and over again. To that end, I bought a journal to record notes which serve as a reminder to me and helps me stay strong when I need it.
I first heard of Margarita when a friend recommended her podcast. I didn’t think an Australian woman so much younger than me would have much to say that was applicable to my life. I was wrong. The advice is timeless and the content applies to women of every age. In her podcasts, Margarita is cheekier and slightly bossier which makes her all the more fun to listen to.
Following Margarita’s dating advice has reinforced my confidence and given me a clear strategy in which to navigate this unfamiliar terrain. I know my value and I’m clear about what I offer a partner. Being so certain about these things makes it easier to set boundaries with men and to set the standard for how I deserve to be treated.
By way of a real-life example, one day I contemplated nudging a man I was communicating with online, thinking he was maybe a bit shy, when I stopped in my tracks. I swear I could hear Margarita’s voice in my head telling me no, that if the man is an orthopedic surgeon and an Ironman competitor, he is most definitely not too timid to make a move. I busied myself with my many projects, and by that evening the man, along with a couple of others, reached out to me. The things that Margarita teaches really do work.
This book is so good that it prompted me to write a review which is rare for me. Every woman needs to hear this life-changing and down-to-earth advice.

Most Ridiculous Book Ever
Revisado: 06-01-24
This book is so bad that I have no words. It is the most boring book I have ever listened to. It was so bad that I could not complete the book. There is no plot. It is all inner dialogue of a completely ridiculous character who is not believable in any way. I very rarely write reviews, but this is such a waste of time that I simply had to.

All Action with Little Substance
Revisado: 05-28-24
This book was such a disappointment. It is literally one chase after another, the bad guys after the good guys. Only a few chapters in the book deal with the Kennedy issue. The rest is just guns and getting chased through the city and getting chased through the woods—to the point that it is tiresome. I like an action pack novel, but this is all action and very little storyline.

Heroine is strident, chronically angry, and downright unlikable. I’ve listened to many war stories and this one is a major miss. It was so bad it was difficult to finish.

Ridiculously Bad Book
Revisado: 01-29-24
I’m a chronic audiobook listener with over 2,000 titles in my library and this is one of the worst books I’ve ever listened to. The main character is annoying, irrational, selfish, and completely unsympathetic. Her voice is on the edge of hysteria and anger for about a third of the book. Do not recommend.
