I enjoyed the book, despite the poor choice of narrator. The narrator has a wonderful voice, and I'll look for other books read by him, but he was a mismatch with this story.

Couldn't get into it!

I usually love really long, involved books, and I tried - really - to get into this one. In fact, I tried for about 20 hours! The different stories never came together, but the worst was the interminable reading of emails and codes. To make it worse, the narrator's voice was droning and boring. I finally gave up and never finished listening, which is very rare for me. I'm really sorry I spent 2 credits on this, and I'd give it zero stars if I could.

I had a very hard time following this story. It seemed to jump around, and a lot of it just didn't make sense. I gave up after about 3 hours. I wish I had used my credit on something else.

A Riveting Story

One of the best books I have heard. I was caught up in the lives of these ordinary women who lived in extraordinary times. The narrators perfectly captured each character, and I felt like I was listening to real people tell their stories. This look into the segregated South and the separation of black and white is told with sensitivity, humor and emotion, but it's never preachy. I couldn't wait to find out what would happen next, and I was sorry when the book ended. I feel like I really got to know these women.
