Historia
Christians who are confused by the homosexuality debate raging in the US are looking for resources that are based solidly on a deep study of what Scripture says about the issue. In People to Be Loved, Preston Sprinkle challenges those on all sides of the debate to consider what the Bible says and how we should approach the topic of homosexuality in light of it.

Revisado: 07-21-24
Preston approaches this topic the way literally everyone should. That is not just a topic, but the real lives of real people. He approaches this humbly and even invites the reader to disagree with him where he may be wrong. He simultaneously calls out the Christians who use divisive topics to mask their own shortcomings. Overall the book was both convicting and refreshing. This will be at the top of my recommendations for anyone who seeks to explore this topic in the church.

Using a comic superhero as an illustration of each heresy, Superheroes Can’t Save You presents a history of the deficient view of Jesus; an investigation of contemporary proponents of that heresy; warnings on how contemporary Christians can unwittingly fall into such bad thinking of Jesus; a biblically faithful correction on who Jesus is; and an explanation of why it is important that we understand who Jesus actually is.

This is going to be a huge help in the way I am able to describe ancient heresies with my church. The creative element behind this has shifted this kind of scholarly work to become incredibly accessible.

Historia
The American church is at a critical crossroads. Our witness has been compromised, our numbers are down, and our reputation has been sullied, due largely to our own faults and fears. The church's ethnocentrism, consumerism, and syncretism have blurred the lines between discipleship and partisanship. Pastor Eric Costanzo, missiologist Daniel Yang, and nonprofit leader Matthew Soerens find that for the church to return to health, we must decenter ourselves from our American idols and recenter on the undeniable, inalienable core reality of the global, transcultural kingdom of God.

Historia
For years, Christians have been asking, "If you died tonight, do you know where you would go?" It turns out that many believers have been giving the wrong answer. It is not heaven. Wright outlines the present confusion about a Christian's future hope and shows how it is deeply intertwined with how we live today. Wright asserts that Christianity's most distinctive idea is bodily resurrection, and provides a magisterial defense for a literal resurrection of Jesus. Wright then explores our expectation of "new heavens and a new earth".

Historia
For centuries, the story of Adam and Eve has resonated richly through the corridors of art, literature, and theology. But for most moderns, taking it at face value is incongruous. Author John Walton explores the ancient Near Eastern context of Genesis 2-3, creating space for a faithful reading of Scripture along with full engagement with science for a new way forward in the human origins debate.

Caleb brings so much clarity to aspects of church leadership, and frankly, to simply being good Christians and people. I particularly loved chapter 5 and the issue of when exactly someone is allowed to “belong”. I highly recommend this book. Even if you are not actively engaged with anyone in the LGBTQ culture, the principles will help in a multitude of areas in your life.

Historia
As a teenager and young man, Justin Lee felt deeply torn. Nicknamed "God Boy" by his peers, he knew that he was called to a life in the evangelical Christian ministry. But Lee harbored a secret: He also knew that he was gay. In this groundbreaking book, Lee recalls the events - his coming out to his parents, his experiences with the "ex-gay" movement, and his in-depth study of the Bible - that led him, eventually, to self-acceptance. But more than just a memoir, Torn provides insightful, practical guidance for all committed Christians who wonder how to relate to gay friends or family members - or who struggle with their own sexuality.

Revisado: 07-16-21
This book is wildly thought provoking and has me totally viewing the theology around homosexuality in a brand new light. I have a lot of work to do, but I’m grateful for Justin’s work to show me that. I may not change my views, but I will at least have more empathy toward anyone around me who is gay. Justin also does a wonderful job narrating the book giving life and difference to each person who enters his story.

Historia
What is the way forward for the church? Tragically, in recent years, Christians have gotten used to revelations of abuses of many kinds in our most respected churches―from Willow Creek to Harvest, from Southern Baptist pastors to Sovereign Grace churches. Respected author and theologian Scot McKnight and former Willow Creek member Laura Barringer wrote this book to paint a pathway forward for the church.

Mostly good
Revisado: 06-26-21
I honestly did enjoy this book. I understand what Scot came out of with Willow Creek because I came out of something very similar. While there is loads of good content, such as the desire for empowering people to see all people simply as image bearers, I also see what concerns me to possibly be throwing out the baby with the bath water. I think there are many things he warns against that can be good. So I say read this book and read it with an open mind. There are many different churches because the body of Christ is full of unique individuals who will reach people uniquely. I do not believe there is a one size fits all approach for the church. Other than, as Scot concludes, Christ-likeness.

Historia
Here is a portrait of Jesus that in some ways will affirm what traditional Christianity has always understood about him...and, in other ways, upend it altogether. Award-winning author Mark Clark delves into the person and work of Jesus of Nazareth: his parables and miracles, his controversial challenge of discipleship and obedience, his seemingly insane claim to be God, and what his death and resurrection (if they did happen) actually mean.

The ability of Mark to address the skeptic and devout Christian at the same time is unparalleled. He writes as an academic, but also as a friend. This book is challenging and formative and I highly recommend to anyone who has even a remote interest in the story of Jesus.
