Historia
The Martian meets Gravity when Army Pilot Vaughn Singleton, Earth’s last man, rushes to Area 51 in search of a spaceplane after he discovers the last woman is stranded on the International Space Station and barely alive - thus beginning a race against time. The event that wiped life from the planet started at the supercollider. It created a rift in space-time. The astronaut stranded aboard the space station, Commander Angela Brown, is a theoretical physicist who used to work at the collider.

Good story, some annoying parts
Revisado: 10-28-20
The storyline is well done and interesting and the reader does a good job. What bothered me is the author's persistent use of "the man", "the woman", "the astronaut" instead of "he", "she", etc. Seemed amateurish to me and really annoying.

Historia
The woman on the bed was barely out of her teens. She wasn't exactly beautiful, but she'd tried to make the most of her looks. And now, alone in a seedy beachfront motel, she was dead. Paradise Police Chief Jesse Stone doesn't know her name. Whoever she is, she didn't deserve to die. Jesse starts digging, only to find himself caught in the crosshairs of a bitter turf war between two ruthless pimps. And more blood will spill before it's over.

Quite Disappointing
Revisado: 10-16-14
I've read all of Parker's Spenser and Jesse Stone novels and while the author chosen to continue the Spenser stories (Ace Atkins) seems to have hit the mark and is highly recommended, Michael Brandman is way off in his attempt to capture Jesse Stone. This book just never seems to get going. It's almost like a computer was programmed to hit all the marks of a Parker book (i.e., swim upstream of traditional thought, visit the crime boss, etc.) but the result is a very wooden effort that falls far short of anything written by Robert B. Parker.

Historia
It’s not even a clue. It’s a whisper, a trace, a ghost echo, drifting down through the decades via chance connections so fragile that they would disintegrate in the puff of a breath. But it’s enough to get legendary former Marine sniper Bob Lee Swagger interested in the events of November 22, 1963, and the third bullet that so decisively ended the life of John F. Kennedy and set the stage for one of the most enduring controversies of our time. Swagger begins his slow night stalk through a much-traveled landscape. But he’s asking questions that few have asked before....

Plausible Theory and Good Story
Revisado: 02-26-13
What is it about November 22, 1963 that so fascinates us? Thousands of books and hundreds of hours of video speculation later, we still don't really know what happened that day in Dallas. Stephen Hunter has written his theory of events around his hero, Bob Lee Swagger, and turned it into a thriller. The theory is pretty interesting but the events that surround Bob Lee are a bit stretched. Still, a very worthy story and a great narrator.

Historia
The Great Recession has shuffled Clay Jannon out of his life as a San Francisco Web-design drone - and serendipity, sheer curiosity, and the ability to climb a ladder like a monkey has landed him a new gig working the night shift at Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore. But after just a few days on the job, Clay begins to realize that this store is even more curious than the name suggests. There are only a few customers, but they come in repeatedly and never seem to actually buy anything....

A charming and wonderful story
Revisado: 10-25-12
Robin Sloan has brought a wonderful story to life and it is narrated perfectly in this audio version. I wouldn't change a thing. This one is highly recommended.

Historia
When 14-year-old Mattie Sullivan asks Spenser to look into her mother’s murder, he’s not completely convinced by her claim that the police investigation four years ago was botched. Mattie is gruff, street-smart, and wise beyond her years, left to care for her younger siblings and an alcoholic grandmother in a dilapidated apartment in South Boston. But her need for closure and her determination to make things right hit Spenser where he lives - they’re the very characteristics he abides by.

Spenser is Back!
Revisado: 06-08-12
Ace Atkins captures the essence of Robert B. Parker's Spenser in this story, capably narrated by Joe Mantegna. Having read or listened to almost all of the Spenser books, I was worried this was going to be an attempt to trade on the Spenser name with inferior goods. Not the case. The story is excellent, the pacing perfect and Mantegna's narration is spot on. If you're a Spenser fan, don't miss this one.

Historia
Stone Barrington is enjoying his usual dinner at Elaine's when his boss at Woodman & Weld, the law firm where Stone is "of counsel," walks in, sits down, and hands Stone a check for one million dollars. It seems Stone's undercover dealings with MI6 have brought in a big new client for the firm, and they're willing to pay Stone a huge bonus and make him a partner. But almost as soon as he's taken the deal, Stone gets wind of an impending scandal that might torpedo his big promotion.

Stone is Getting Old
Revisado: 04-03-12
I've read or listened to most of the Stone Barrington series from Stuart Woods and while they are entertaining, this most recent entry has become formulaic, and that's not a good thing. Stone seems to have ventured far from his humble roots in that he now receives million-dollar bonuses and defends international arms dealers without moral qualm. The plot is workable, but one senses that crafting plots is not Mr. Woods' main reason for writing these stories any longer. He seems to like discussing flying airplanes, fine dining and wines, and putting forth a platform to advertise such things as the Today show and Mercedes automobiles (joining James Patterson I might add). Tony Roberts does a fine job with the narration and brings Stone and his buddies to life. He just can't save a tired story.
If you're new to the Stone Barrington series, stick to the early stories. If you want to read or listen to Stuart Woods at his best, try "Chiefs", an excellent work on all levels.

Good Story, Bad Narrator
Revisado: 03-12-12
This is a well-researched story that works well for fans of the time period (Civil War). However, the narrator sounds like she's reading to a kindergarten class and it's just too hard to get past. Ok, I'm not a southerner, but do all people of the old south speak so slowly they sound lobotomized? And do all southern women have to sound like little girls?
I'd say read this book rather than listen to this version.
