A great book to sing along to, and it's very funny

This novelization is just as funny as the movie and a little more. Every book should start with a sing-along, and this one does. "Attaaaaack of the killer tomaaaaatoes. Ataaaaack of the killer tomatoes!" I was laughing from the start. Jeff Strand breaks the fourth wall just enough to keep the snickers coming.

If you're a big fan of the movie, there's a ton of in-gags, but the author also spells out what most of the jokes are. A lot of extended scenes really pay off and are quite enjoyable. Encylopocalypse Publications made the right decision choosing Jeff Strand to adapt this book DECADES after the movie came out.

I received this book free. This is an honest review,

Firstly, the bonus novella at the end of the book was a surprise, and it is called “The Wanderer of Twilight Mountain" (it was NOT in the original Zebra Books paperback).

If you like King's 'SALEMS LOT and you're looking for a similar-themed story, look no further than BLOOD KIN by Ronald Kelly. It's about a small town that recently has a vampire problem. The title alludes to one of the main vampires mostly turning his kin folk into the undead. Of course, there are some town folks that don't like this idea, and they aim to stop this southern bloodsucker. Ronald Kelly pours on the southern charm and covers it with blood in this tale. I highly recommend it. Please note, I received this audiobook free of charge and I am giving it my own honest review.

We all know who Stephen King is. Many of us also know that King made a shared-universe series for his ultra-fans called the Dark Tower series. This book is Phipps' Dark Tower. Almost every published book he's written gets an homage in here of some sort. I call it his Super Dark Tower Smash Bros book, and any constant reader of Phipps will DROOL over this book. If King wrote a book where all of his characters had a tournament of champions... well, the critics would hate it, BUT the fans would HAVE to read it. I WANT TO SPOIL it all, but if you're a fan of his other series, some spoilers are on the front cover. This being Audible, I couldn't really READ the cover and had no idea until the audio introduction started... and I "pricked up my ears."

I HOPE Phipps has the fan-base needed to just LOVE this book's fan service. I know he hasn't been around that long, but he can write, and his books are a LOT of fun.

Authors I like include Larry Correia, Stephen King, and Jeff Strand (he gets a little extra silly sometimes). C.T. Phipps is right there and needs to be read by lovers of a good humorous book that can make you feel happy, excited, devastated, and more.

Jeffrey Kafer knocks it out of the super-hero park AGAIN for this book. I can't imagine anyone else reading this book to me.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review.

I've been wanting to try Shaun Hutson for YEARS (especially his book SLUGS), and when I was offered TESTAMENT on audiobook in exchange for an honest review, I jumped at the chance. This book IS horror, but it feels almost like a Tom Clancy espionage and military book at first. It's a different style of story than I usually grab off the shelf, BUT it didn't go overboard in the military/counter-terrorist side of things.

I didn't know this was a sequel, but you don't need to read the preceding books to understand this book. While listening, I kept thinking that there must be some history here that would be flashed back to. So, I researched and found that the main character, counter-terrorist agent Sean Doyle, has his own SERIES of books by Shaun Hutson: Renegades, White Ghost, Knife Edge, Hybrid, and this book (so far). I'm sure if I read those other books first, I'd get EVEN MORE enjoyment out of this book, but I didn't NEED to read them.

Andy Stevenson does a great job reading this book. His voice doesn't quite hold up under 1.5x speed like I sometimes use for books, but I didn't mind his pacing at all (in other words: he wasn't too slow). The British "flavour" of this book was very welcome too. I've been listening to a lot "USA"-books, so to speak, lately, and this was a breath of fresh air.

NOTE: The story can be very graphic...violence and hardcore sex. Some of the sexuality of the antagonist could be VERY triggering ...including a fleeting lascivious thought toward a child. Also, threesomes and stroking-of-turgid-member descriptions may make it embarrassing to listen to on public transportation (like I did... "Are my earphones up high enough that others can hear this?"). Sometimes, it felt like too much... but only because I wasn't expecting such lurid detail. Hopefully, this review will help people be more prepared.

A great comic book novel

THE SUPERVILLAINY SAGA (Volume 1) by C. T. Phipps is a pretty fun romp of a book (well, group of books). This audio book is about 800 pages of actual books (the first three books in this particular series). Jeffrey Kafer is very easy to understand as the narrator of this audiobook. Even at faster speeds. I tend to set the speed to 1.5+ for a lot of audiobooks, and Kafer’s enunciation is perfect for this.

The plot of this series is very comic-book like. Silly, evil plots, wild characters, drama, tragedy (think Spider-Man), and lot of pop-culture references (without it feeling like they’re all just stuck there to make you nod and say, “got it.”). Is it overly political? I don’t think so.

Overall, the books are full of quips and funny moments that will keep you having a good time.

A great coming of age story in 70s London

ABIDE WITH ME by Ian Ayris
is an excellent coming-of-age story in the 70s in Great Britain (it is also available in the all-in-one edition “Shining Like Rainbows: The Complete John Sissons Trilogy”). In a household with a dad that loves his football team, and a neighbor boy who gets picked on and barely talks, John is going through as many changes as London is. His observations are stark and fascinating. Karl Jenkinson narrates it proper well! He hits all the slang and swearing with the right oomph. I had to listen closely at first through the accent, but my ears got used to it quickly. I haven’t read the next two books, but this one is a banger of a great piece of growing up in 70s London for well over its first half.

I thought this was going to a religious book at first, but “Abide With Me” is usually sung at the FA Cup (and that fact is brought up in the book). I won’t go into its metaphorical meaning too deeply here, but the title works. All three books in the series are named after songs.

I received this audio book free for an honest review from FreeAudiobookCodes, and I’m very glad I did.

Oh! GOD! NOOOO! I hate this 2 hour audio experience. The most-awful cricket ever is too close to the whole thing. And he breaks anyone from enjoying the waves. I want a two or three hour wave experience on audible, but this one is AWFUL and just kept me cringing and awake and unable to work efficiently at my job the next day! I should be able to sue, but instead I’m writing a review. Do NOT TRUST THIS RECORDING! Delete it if you bought it like me! Now!!! Unless you like annoying crickets, do NOT listen! Don’t do it! Nooooo!!

Works VERY Well as an Oz Story

Revisado: 12-12-17

The story isn't totally perfect, but it is fun and works well. The narrator is unobtrusive and pretty fun in parts. Dorothy, Ozma, Glenda, the Sawhorse, the Scarecrow, etc. are all in here. I haven't read PARADOX IN OZ before (or Edward Einhorn's other Oz book, THE LIVING HOUSE OF OZ), so it was nice to listen to. A fun diversion for an adult. Not too long, and not too "young." Some of it even felt like a Piers Anthony Xanth book with its puns (the titular Paradox... could be the Parrot-Ox, as seen on the cover, but there are other paradox-like things in the book). There is some time-event sections (a man who lives backwards, time-loops, etc...) that are fun, but could be confusing (and you may hurt your head trying to figure out if the author did it right). At least he isn't unstuck in time. Oz + Sci-fi = fun.

The accompanying PDF is an incomplete set of 7 black-and-white pictures by Eric Shanower from the 1999 book. I love the M.C. Escher-reference one. At the end of the 7-page PDF, it says to check out the original printed edition of the book if you want to see more. This is kind of frustrating. I love Shanower's Oz-related artworks, and I was hoping for more. Looking through the sample book ("Look inside") on Amazon, it looks like there might be 40+ illustrations in the hardcover.

Possible Spoiler, so I am adding it here, but mostly because it is just awesome. The ultimate "cool"-factor for me in this book is the Obsidian City. It is the polar opposite of the Emerald City, including its inhabitants! SO COOL. I was given audiobook as a free review copy, at my request, and I have voluntarily left this review.

The Full Moon Audiolibro Por David Neth arte de portada

FULL MOON by David Neth is certainly interesting enough that it kept me listening. The author knows how to feed bits and pieces of information to the reader to keep them going. There were a lot of "Oh!" moments as I listened. The first two chapters are excellent at this while you discover exactly what kind of book this is.

The urban fantasy/supernatural genre is usually fun, and this fits right into the "fun" category. Action and humor.

The narrator: The reciting is semi-uneven. Obviously recorded at different times (usually on a per-chapter basis) on different days and it is slightly tinny at times. The voices feel a little strained/extreme at times. Will is an exaggerated deep voice. At some times, the voice of Kathy is a little bit like Liam Kyle Sullivan when he does his character "Kelly" (from the "Shoes" song). Overall, this didn't bother me enough to stop listening.

I was given this audiobook free by the author. So, I chose not to read the description of the story first. This helped the surprises to keep coming. I am writing this unbiased review with utmost honesty.

Sounded like it would be a SPACE QUEST-style story

Revisado: 05-26-16

As a fan of the older Sierra SPACE QUEST games, this book's concept intrigued me, but this is NOT sci-fi. A humor-filled monster / urban fantasy (this has magic in it) story sounded like a great way to spend a few hours, but I started to question myself during the first 20 minutes of listening. BUT it got better.

Basic plot: Secret Organization magical janitors fight monsters that clog pipes and a newbie learns the ropes. They are sort of Men-In-Black (the movie) types that the real world doesn't know exists, but they use magic, not ray guns. The monsters cause manic depression, suicide, and other bad things (which I liked the idea of and wanted it explored more, even if it sort of belittles those vey real diseases).

As an audiobook, I was not enjoying this story very much at first. I found it tough to continue. It may be the narrator or the character Ben's way of talking and sense of humor. Some humor reads better in my head, and this felt like it would do much better in a printed version.

The mysophobia and OCD humor of the co-main character, Dani, was never funny to me. I smirked a bit through the censored-swearing humor. The MEN IN BLACK-style squirmy monster bad guys were interesting in a CG-rendered sort of way (their motivations intrigued me more than their looks).

NOTE: The author has the first four chapters available on his website for free. I recommend going over there and reading that (and listening to the sample on here).
