Historia
The Wheel of Time turns and Ages come and go, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth returns again. In the Third Age, an Age of Prophecy, the World and Time themselves hang in the balance. What was, what will be, and what is, may yet fall under the Shadow.

First disappointment of the series.
Revisado: 12-26-23
The series is great, but this book was tough to get through. Too much filler, not enough plot. I think I'll wait a while before starting the next book.

I enjoyed the first half of this book. The second half seemed to drag on and on and was difficult to get through.
Despite a promising start, I was so disappointed by the style and content of the second half of this book that I will not be continuing this series.

Dante, Blays, and Gladdic's final effort to defeat him has failed. Within weeks—if not days—Rale will be destroyed. One last hope remains. They can't kill Nolost, but they may be able to eject him from Rale before he can complete his work. To do so, though, they'll have to destroy a world themselves: Olastar, the home of the portals that link all other places together.

Too much nothing. Time to end this series.
Revisado: 02-07-23
This book could be shortened to 1/3 of it's length and not lose any plot or character development or entertainment value. So much of this story was plodding and felt like it's only purpose was to fill pages.
I love this series and I think EWR is incredibly talented, but this book was difficult to get through and I was eager for it to be over.
If the next book is not the series finale I think I'll skip it and wait for the conclusion.

Historia
Half a century after the Doomsday Battle, the uneasy balance of Dark Forest Deterrence keeps the Trisolaran invaders at bay. Earth enjoys unprecedented prosperity due to the infusion of Trisolaran knowledge. With human science advancing daily and the Trisolarans adopting Earth culture, it seems that the two civilizations will soon be able to coexist peacefully as equals, without the terrible threat of mutually assured annihilation. But the peace has also made humanity complacent.

Overrated.
Revisado: 09-20-21
The last 2 books in this series are a slog to get the through before the story mercifully ends with a sputter and a fizzle. I liked the first book. The second one was disappointing but decent enough for me to give the last book a shot. I should have skipped it. If you're on the fence and debating whether or not to finish the series, don't bother- it doesn't pay off.

Historia
This near-future trilogy is the first chance for English-speaking listeners to experience this multiple-award-winning phenomenon from Cixin Liu, China's most beloved science fiction author. In The Dark Forest, Earth is reeling from the revelation of a coming alien invasion - in just four centuries' time. The aliens' human collaborators may have been defeated, but the presence of the sophons, the subatomic particles that allow Trisolaris instant access to all human information, means that Earth's defense plans are totally exposed to the enemy.

Not broken into chapters, detracts from story.
Revisado: 08-08-21
Decent story, lackluster performance. Absence of real chapters made it difficult to get through. I lost my place several times and ended up missing parts of the story because it's nearly impossible to scroll back to your exact location in an 8 hour "chapter".
On top of the technical issues, the book is incredibly slow. None of the characters are memorable or add much to the story.

Historia
After the latest mission of the starship Flying Dutchman, Earth is safe not just for a year, but for hundreds of years. The ship’s weary crew wonders what they will do with their lives in peacetime, but the enemy has other plans, and there is danger on the Homefront. Starring Zachary Quinto, R.C. Bray, Kate Mulgrew, Robert Picardo, and everyone's favorite AI, Skippy the Magnificent, alongside a full cast. Includes plenty of pew-pew-pew, original sound composition, and maybe some singing by R.C. Bray.

Overproduced but worth listening to.
Revisado: 01-09-20
Some of the sound effects were too much. The dialogue was difficult to make out at points, especially during the combat scenes.
But the story was good and the individual actors all did a great job. And I liked the feeling of being TOLD a story, rather than just listening to someone reading.
I liked it and I'm glad I listened to it, but I think I would have liked it more in the regular audiobook format.

Historia
Tens of thousands of years of ice is melting, and the land of Assail, long a byword for menace and inaccessibility, is at last yielding its secrets. Tales of gold discovered in the region's north circulate in every waterfront dive and sailor's tavern, and now countless adventurers and fortune-seekers have set sail in search of riches. All these adventures have to guide them are legends and garbled tales of the dangers that lie in wait - hostile coasts, fields of ice, impassable barriers and strange, terrifying creatures.

Mediocre writing, horrible narration.
Revisado: 09-23-19
This dialog in this book is nearly impossible to follow since the writing is abrupt and all the characters sound exactly the same.
This is Banks' worst performance to date by a large margin, which is really saying something because his performances are usually tolerable at best.
I will NEVER listen to another book narrated by John Banks, although I may give Esslemont another chance.
I've finished more than 60 books on Audibe and this is the first time I've ever requested a refund.
This is a sad and disappointing conclusion to a once great series. I genuinely wish I skipped this book and ended on a high note.

Historia
Greymane believed he'd outrun his past. With his school for swordsmanship in Falar, he was looking forward to a quiet life, although his colleague Kyle wasn't as enamored with life outside the mercenary company, the Crimson Guard. However, it seems it is not so easy for an ex-Fist of the Malazan Empire to disappear, especially one under sentence of death from that same Empire.

Historia
The return of the mercenary company, the Crimson Guard, could not have come at a worse time for a Malazan Empire exhausted by warfare and weakened by betrayals and rivalries. Indeed, there are those who wonder whether the Empress Laseen might not be losing her grip on power as she faces increasing unrest as conquered kingdoms and principalities sense freedom once more.

Poor narration, technical errors, decent story.
Revisado: 07-14-19
This book was better than the last but the narration was incredibly poor. All the characters sound exactly the same which made the dialog-heavy scenes difficult to follow.
So far the ICE books are awful compared to the SE books and if I had listened to these first I don't think I would have finished the series. If I didn't know better I'd think this was fan fiction rather than a genuine collaboration.
The only thing that makes this book worth reading is it's potential relevance later in the series. It does not stand on it's own.

The human soldiers stranded on the planet Paradise have been recruited into an alien legion to do the dirty jobs that the high-tech species won't do. Their first mission is to kick the enemy off a backwater planet no one cares about. It's a simple assignment, except everyone has a hidden agenda, and the planet could become a deathtrap.

Does just fine without Skippy and Colonel Joe.
Revisado: 06-14-19
Deathtrap is a pleasant digression from the main Ex. Force plot line, which feels a little repetitive of late. The characters have more than enough personality to carry the story and you don't feel like you're missing much even with Skippy and Joe out of the picture.
Overall I enjoyed this book and I'd rank it in the middle of the pack in the Ex Force series.
