Historia
Sherlock Holmes is dead--or so most of the world thinks. His fatal plunge over the Reichenbach Falls as he struggled with his archenemy, Moriarty, has been widely reported. But Holmes has escaped and is alive. In his immediate circle, only Holmes's brother, the lethargic genius Mycroft, knows of his survival. Even Dr. Watson thinks that the great detective is dead. Among his enemies, Sebastian Moran, Moriarty's chief henchman, knows of Holmes's probable escape and waits for their inevitable meeting.

Loved it!

I thought the stories were detailed and cleverly written and helped to round out the Sherlock Holmes character. There were a few minor discrepancies, but they didn’t matter. The narration was also perfect. The book made me want to visit the places that the author spoke about.

Historia
This entertaining examination of everyday science from the fanciful to the factual covers topics ranging from pesticides and environmental estrogens to lipsticks and garlic. Readers are alerted to the shenanigans of quacks and are offered glimpses into the fascinating history of science. The science of aphrodisiacs, DDT, bottled waters, vitamins, barbiturates, plastic wraps, and smoked meat is investigated. Worries about acrylamide, preservatives, and waxed fruits are put into perspective, and the mysteries of bulletproof vests, weight-loss diets, green-haired Swedes, laughing gas, and "mad honey" are unraveled.

It is always good to listen to someone separate fact from fiction. Through clever stories, he teaches critical thinking. We need more of that.

Historia
Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

I loved this book, mainly because of the rich, colorful language. It highlights a time and place that many of us are not familiar with.

Historia
Just as he did in The Terror, Dan Simmons draws impeccably from history to create a gloriously engaging and terrifying narrative. Based on the historical details of Charles Dickens' life and narrated by Wilkie Collins (Dickens' friend, frequent collaborator, and Salieri-style secret rival), Drood explores the still-unsolved mysteries of the famous author's last years and may provide the key to Dickens's final, unfinished work: The Mystery of Edwin Drood.

Drood review
Revisado: 04-28-19
Drood is one of my favorite novels. I own the unabridged version of the book which is very long but I find the abridged version from Audible somewhat choppy and “missing time”. The abridged version is also missing some of the colorful language that is in the book. Not once did I hear “dear reader“ or “periwinkles”. What I love most about the book is the character development which focuses not only on the individual characters but also on the complexity and dissonance in the relationship between Wilke Collins and Charles Dickens. I truly hope someone makes a spectacular movie about this book. Some of the parts were downright terrifying. Thank you Dan Simmons for enriching my life. Thank you Audible for making it available to your listeners.
