great read
Revisado: 08-10-17
A really interesting story of some very famous planes including the U2 SR71 and F117. It was engaging, interesting and informative.
If you have any interest in aeroplanes you should stop reading this review and get this book.

As the digital era becomes increasingly pervasive, the intertwining forces of computers and espionage are reshaping the entire world; what was once the preserve of a few intelligence agencies now affects us all. Corera's compelling narrative takes us from the Second World War through the Cold War and the birth of the Internet to the present era of hackers and surveillance. The book is rich with historical detail and characters as well as astonishing revelations about espionage carried out in recent times by the United Kingdom, the United States, and China.

Interesting and we'll presented
Revisado: 07-15-17
Interesting information presented in an easy to listen to manner.
The narrator is fantastic, I wish he did all my books.
If you're well versed in the tech world you will still get enjoyment from this book and learn something despite not being shocked by its contents.
If you know nothing of technology then this book will no doubt surprise you about what has been going on around you.

I always like this narrator, probably my favourite of the 10 or so I've experienced.
There's not much to say other than its a good book. The story follows the investigation and trial and some post trial investigation.
If you like non fictional investigations, buy this book.

Historia
Three and a half years ago, David Sanger’s book The Inheritance: The World Obama Confronts and the Challenges to American Power described how a new American president came to office with the world on fire. Now, just as the 2012 presidential election battle begins, Sanger follows up with an eye-opening, news-packed account of how Obama has dealt with those challenges, relying on innovative weapons and reconfigured tools of American power to try to manage a series of new threats.

An interesting story told at a dull pace
Revisado: 05-17-17
The topics were quite interesting, but the book doesn't finish as strongly as it starts. The Stuxnet/Olympic games part at the start of the book is by far the best part and the story doesn't really conclude, I guess because Obama's second term hadn't started at the time of writing.
I had to set the narration speed to x1.1 to stop the author from putting me to sleep. Fine voice but such a slow reading speed...

Historia
An unprecedented high-level master narrative of America's intelligence wars from the only person ever to helm both the CIA and NSA, at a time of heinous new threats and wrenching change. For General Michael Hayden, playing to the edge means playing so close to the line that you get chalk dust on your cleats. Otherwise, by playing back, you may protect yourself, but you will be less successful in protecting America.

Thoroughly insightful, couldn't put it down
Revisado: 04-27-17
Most authors should not narrate their own stories but Gen Hayden is a rare exception. His narration is supurb.
I think he made his case regarding Prism, CyberCom and RDIs eloquently and passionately. And whilst I still disagree with some of his opinions and decisions, I do not doubt his integrity, patriotism, professionalism or abilities.
A very well written, very thoughtful perspective on a unique chapter of recent history.
Please write (and narrate) another book, I don't even care what topic you write about, I will buy it.

Historia
The highest-ranking Soviet bloc intelligence official ever to defect to the West, Lt. Gen. Ion Mihai Pacepa is at it again. A quarter century ago, in his international bestseller Red Horizons, Pacepa exposed the massive crimes and corruption of his former boss, Romanian President Nicolae Ceausescu, giving the dictator a nervous breakdown and inspiring him to send assassination squads to the U.S. to find his former spy chief and kill him. They failed.

Amazing book
Revisado: 02-07-17
Loved the book. An extremely interesting read that calls into light a lot of the 'facts' that are spread around the world.
The only criticism is around approximately chapter 41, the author goes on a rant about the Democrat party in the US and equates government regulation as one step removed from communistic tyranny and only the pure capitalism of America can lead to anything but despotism. Whilst I appreciate the unique viewpoint of the author, it has been shown again and again that social democracies such as Scandinavia and Australia have better performing economies, social fluidity, life expectancy, personal wealth, higher education and other metrics than the USA which lags behind in. So I find his rabid hatred of socialised democracies misplaced but not unexpected.
A fantastic read. This book is almost mandatory for anyone that considers themselves at least briefly acquainted with politics and modern history.

Called the "Bob Gates of his generation", Michael Morell is a top CIA officer who saw it all - the only person with President Bush on 9/11/01 and with President Obama on 5/1/11, when Usama Bin Laden was brought to justice.

Awesome book. Interesting, factual and read by a fantastic narrator.
I found it interesting to contrast Morell's views with that of Tenant's of the same time period. Read this first though.

Revisado: 11-23-16
Fascinating and really well narrated.
It wasn't exceedingly critical of law enforcement and intelligence agencies, it spoke about facts fairly calmly and called a spade a spade without any obvious malice.
I likes the tone and I was unaware of a lot of the incidents from recent history being connected to one another.

Historia
Al Qaeda is no longer the central organizing force that aids or authorizes terrorist attacks or recruits terrorists. It is now more a source of inspiration for terrorist acts carried out by independent local groups that have branded themselves with the Al Qaeda name. Building on his previous groundbreaking work on the Al Qaeda network, forensic psychiatrist Marc Sageman has greatly expanded his research to explain how Islamic terrorism emerges and operates in the 21 century.

An interesting read, but skip chapter 5
Revisado: 11-23-16
I thought the book was quite interesting except for chapter 5 which was absurd stupidity. "Social welfare causes terrorism and Europeans are all racists unlike Americans who are tolerant and friendly"... Are you serious?!
Skip that chapter and you'll love this book.
As for the narrator, I don't like him personally, but that's just me.
