Romantic and beautifully narrated
Revisado: 08-04-24
This is a beautifully narrated story about family and love. The personalities come to life and the talented narrator brings the characters to life and puts you right in the middle of the story as if you were there. I had tears well up on numerous occasions. I loved every moment of this audible book. This book is for every romantic person who wants a good, clean, feel good story.

Speeding north through rural Maine, Eden Martelli wonders how her life came to this - on the run with her mute five-year-old son dozing fitfully in the passenger seat. When a breakdown leaves them stranded in Summer Harbor, Eden has no choice but to stay put through Christmas. Beau Callahan is a habitual problem solver. He left the sheriff’s department to take over his family’s Christmas tree farm, but he’s still haunted by the loss of his parents and struggling to handle his first Christmas alone. When Eden shows up looking for work, Beau thinks he’s finally caught a break.

Did not reach its potential
Revisado: 07-01-24
The characters and story seemed to lack depth and the story did not reach its potential. The other characters did not come through in the narration. It felt a bit one dimensional and disappointing.

Historia
An intricate tale of love, haunting memories, and renewal, Second Glance begins in current-day Vermont, where an old man puts a piece of land up for sale and unintentionally raises protest from the local Abenaki Indian tribe, who insist it's a burial ground. When odd, supernatural events plague the town of Comtosook, a ghost hunter is hired by the developer to help convince the residents that there's nothing spiritual about the property.

Great weaving past and present
Revisado: 12-01-23
While the narrator was excellent, I would’ve preferred a younger, sounding voice to allow for an easier transition between the children and the younger adults. I also think some of the characters could have been a little better developed, but that did not preclude the story from developing nicely. An interesting idea with the weaving of characters from the past into the present. I found this to be quite a bit different from other books written by this author, however, still a good story and a pleasant read.

Historia
Texas, 1921. A time of abundance. The Great War is over, the bounty of the land is plentiful, and America is on the brink of a new and optimistic era. But for Elsa Wolcott, deemed too old to marry in a time when marriage is a woman’s only option, the future seems bleak. Until the night she meets Rafe Martinelli. By 1934, the world has changed; millions are out of work and drought has devastated the Great Plains. Elsa must make an agonizing choice: fight for the land she loves or leave it behind and go west, to California, in search of a better life for her family.

Historical fiction at its best
Revisado: 08-02-23
This is a bleak, yet beautiful story of the Dust Bowl and Great Depression that describes the immense challenges faced but, more importantly, of family, love and courage. While we have our own challenges today, I can only attempt to understand the strength of previous generations that endured such harsh realities. While the story is sad, we can feel and see the adversities of these good people, it reveals what people are able to endure even in the most difficult times and there is hope when you stay strong and have the love and support of family. This is a good read and I highly recommend it.

Historia
Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening, her husband, Gabriel, returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face and then never speaks another word. Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety.

Historia
I wanted to lose myself in the small town of Pelion, Maine. To forget everything I had left behind. The sound of rain. The blood. The coldness of a gun against my skin. For six months, each breath has been a reminder that I survived—and my dad didn't. I'm almost safe again. But the moment I meet Archer Hale, my entire world tilts on its axis . . . and never rights itself again. Until I trespass into his strange, silent, and isolated world, Archer communicates with no one. Yet in his whiskey-colored eyes, something intangible happens between us.

Good story, too many lovemaking scenes
Revisado: 06-28-23
I really enjoy this author’s stories and this one was also good, but as much as I like a good lovemaking scene, the book could have been great if some of the lovemaking scenes (even though tastefully done) were shortened or eliminated all together. The characters’ stories could have been better developed, resulting in a much more interesting novel. That said, it was still a worthwhile listen, and I would recommend it to readers who are not looking for too much depth (and who enjoy possibly too many sexy scenes).

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Historia
It's August 1984, and paperboy Christopher Stewart has gone missing. Hours later, 12-year-old Sammy Cox hurries home from his own paper route, red-faced and out of breath, hiding a terrible secret. Crystal, Sammy's 17-year-old sister, is worried by the disappearance but she also sees an opportunity: the Stewart case has echoes of an earlier unsolved disappearance of another boy, one town over. Crystal senses the makings of an award-winning essay, one that could win her a scholarship - and a ticket out of their small Iowa town.

Started Interesting Then Fizzled Out
Revisado: 02-01-23
This could have been a really good novel, and the story was interesting, but it didn’t seem that the characters’ stories were fully developed. At its conclusion, I felt that there had been a build up, like waiting for the Fourth of July Macy’s fireworks, and instead being handed a box of sparklers. Very disappointed.
