The inability to take a lose
Revisado: 01-03-24
I liked the first book for two important reasons: it was believable that a girl who spent her entire life trying to find ways to assist her clan, allowing her to have develop mentally in certain aspects, develop a deep understanding of the martial skills of her clan, and have deep-seated issue personal conflicts. The other reason is that she recognizes that she, while being behind in terms of time, is giving her clans resources, which is the top clan, thus bringing them to a balance.
This book throws those reasonable abilities out the window for gods chosen to have wins for no other reason than they are the MC. While also throwing in the troupe of having the MC hate snobbish nobles while conveniently forgetting she is both a noble and snobbish in similar manners. This isn't even later in the book; it is the first section where she not only beats three nobles with years additional training than her, better resources than her, and access to the best equipment possible. She then proceeds to beat a prince which of the empire she resides in, who I am not kidding, justifies the loss by him never training against exotic weapons.
Now, I'm usually forgiving for some of these things, but refusal to let a character lose is insufferable when you try to make them the underdog. This reasoning to me is trash because he's a prince, and her parents from the country know about hook swords and have met those who wielded them. No conceivable way can exist while a prince has never trained against such an exotic fighter once.
Anyways performance was great but story is trash. I give it an overall 2.5, average.

Historia
Heaven sucks. It most definitely, undeniably did not live up to the expectation of a paradise in the clouds, not with the talking spiders, evil priests of Light, and war, lots of war. Those of Light simply wouldn’t leave the fledgling village—Dedu Tedu Novus—alone. Peace was not on the menu. The seven declarations of war made that point crystal clear. Worse, in a series of unfortunate and escalating events, our stray King of Shadows finds himself where he really ought not to be.

Reactive and No Adult Skills
Revisado: 09-29-23
I continued this story, thinking it would be more engaging than the last one. The MC would be more active in his role with his new responsibilities. However, I have been thoroughly abused by this notion. The MC acts like a child with no thoughts seeming to pass through his skull. You might wonder what he does for this to be such a significant impact. Well, every time he doesn't have more than a minute to think, he babbles random nonsense and comes up with shit ideas. Mind you, he is supposed to be a grown man who has mastered multiple languages and has a grasp on the etymology of English. There is no possible way that his thinking skills, much less social skills, would be this terrible. Every mildly pretty woman distracts him beyond the belief of ADHD because when escaping for your life, you are very engaged and might be hyperfocused on that issue. All of these would be somewhat alleviated if the MC actively engaged in the story, attempting to prevent the village from being discovered by setting up false villages or recruiting monsters for when they are attacked. No, he just stumbles into it and reacts to the situation in the worst way possible. This is exemplified when we spend chapters of his trying to escape a city he was thrown into for no reason other than the author having nothing better for him to do.
I enjoy some things, like the performance and some mild story revelations. It has so much potential, but the style of writing taken for this book doesn't mesh well with the character and makes it a struggle to listen through. I'll continue with the series, but only if the second book doesn't rain in some of these faults; I might have to drop.

Jake has finally found a personal goal of his own as he gains a quest to defeat three more Beast Lords before he can face the final opponent of the Tutorial: The King of the Forest. Something he happily does, fully immersing himself in grasping power and gaining levels as he hunts through Dungeons to kill stronger and stronger foes. In another region of the Tutorial, turmoil amongst the humans quickly died down after a disastrous battle leaves nearly everyone except the Metal Mage William dead.

Well worth the wait
Revisado: 06-16-22
My only complaint is that there isn't more to listen to. I enjoyed listening to the MC deal with the final quest of the tutorial and getting to have him interact with the world once again. I look forward to the next book and hope to get more interactions between him and the coworkers from the tutorial!

Historia
The Ancient Woods of Saldia hold secrets. The gnarled oaks are home to murderers, slavers, and the legendary blightwolves that ravage the countryside by the light of the twin moons. In a world of rabid wolves the size of horses, not-so-extinct dragons, and magical reagents that grow over every inch of the land, tonight is unique. Tonight, a merciless king dies alone in the forest. Tonight, an usurper rises from within the ranks of the king's trusted noblemen. Tonight, ancient enchantments are unleashed upon an unsuspecting world.

MC is insufferable
Revisado: 09-14-21
Connor is the most boring goody toe-shoes in the universe, not a person who survived eight years in the most dangerous forest on the continent and had his family killed. It seems like the author liked the idea of someone hardened by their environment yet is a bleeding heart in a place where everyone wishes to murder him and steal what he is now cursed to bear.
The main character's inability to act appropriately in nearly all his conflicts makes him insufferable as the writing is meant to display competence even though it makes him looked naive or incompetent. His complete hypocrisy in the face of others not spelling out their backstory while excluding his own. The complete inability for him to understand socializing with others while being able to read tell when someone is lying, EVERYTIME. It does not lead to a good character that is interesting or capable of rooting to succeed. The in inconsistent in power he has convenient for whenever the author wishes to make something challenging or absurdly easy.
The chapters with Zander, Otmund, Murdock, and Sophia should be cut out because they detract from the story of Connor and building relationships with characters he should be amicable towards or have a friendship. Have Quinn, the person hunting him be the other POV and show the villians perspective we learn through her. Other than that, another user pointed out the miss use of words like calling 10 soldiers an "army." This persists calling tens of people armies.
I won't expand on the narration as everyone more or less agrees it's terrible. It just doesn't fit the narrator and makes the fights even more unbearable than a person being exhausted four times in a row yet still able to move.
This could have been lower but it being in a series gives some of the omitted information the plausible ability to be expanded upon later

Maulkin didn't know dying would mean a new eternity of dungeon delving, monster slaying, and glory hunting. If he had, he wouldn't have been so worried about kicking the bucket on a date gone even more wrong than usual. Reborn in the wild world of Amaranth, Maulkin finds himself in a hulking demi-human body with a sword of a size to match. Marked as an Eternal, a fledging immortal of boundless potential, Maulkin soon discovers he's been given a mission by the elder pantheon of this new realm.

Funny at first then dry
Revisado: 09-01-21
The narrator, Luke Daniels, was spectacular. No complaints there. However, the characters and some jokes were funny or clever when done once but quickly becomes grating chapter after chapter.
The main character is initially very interested in stats, giving solid ideas on handling practical issues and managing his team. Then whenever the writers find it convenient, they bring his intelligence down below that of a rock. It becomes even more annoying, especially when the gods create the bodies and implied souls to whatever they most desire; any falt is something they permit and considered to be their ideal. He becomes incapable of tactics, forgets abilities, and by all the gods in this book, says the dumbest shit. I don't know what the author was going for but needed to sit down, write what they wanted the main character to have or not have, then write the story, rather than 'let's give the character what he needs depending on the situation even if it contradicts with previous actions.' It is an insult to the reader's intelligence, and it is intolerable.
The 'slap stick' humor was fun with the first few punches and when they were enemies or hostile to the MC. It wasn't funny when his 'friend' continued to hit him as a form of affection, aimed a bow with a notched arrow down to his 'serpent' constantly. Now for those who think. this is funny, imagine if it's reversed. Would you still be chuckling? If not, it isn't funny. It only gets worse when his friend calls him dumb with whatever plan he comes up with that makes sense, going on a hill to see the land, helping others out of moral concern, assisting a city because it leads to the only possible place a shard could be, and whenever they fight they also follow his plans, especially when those actions save their lives and ends with him being kicked as a thank you.
The story is mostly good with foreshadowing, but one part falls flat with him being meant to be having anger issues after he soul bounds to the quest item. However, this rage also occurs earlier in the story and is reasonable considering he is constantly being dunking on by his friends and treated like an ant worthy of disgust alone. The narration saves this book as the narrator fits the mc and is excellent at modulating his tone for the occasion in the story.
If your looking for something average that the first time through will make you laugh, buy it. If you want a series or to listen to it again, at least be aware of some things that'll annoy you.

Historia
Call Me by Your Name first swept across the world in 2007. It is the story of a sudden and powerful romance that blossoms between an adolescent boy and a summer guest at his parents' cliffside mansion on the Italian Riviera. During the restless summer weeks, unrelenting but buried currents of obsession, fascination, and desire intensify their passion as they test the charged ground between them and verge toward the one thing both already fear they may never truly find again: total intimacy.

Beautiful Romance
Revisado: 06-02-20
Painful to listen to a young romance that has some much intimate build-up to the main characters coming together. It becomes more somber to the end, but the intimacy remains even after years apart and wondering. I would have wished the end portion of the book would be have done more for moving past your first love, but overall fantastic
