With unapologetic precision and a science-backed lens, the author delivers a compelling wake-up call about the toxic intersection of modern food, chronic disease, and corporate influence—exposing how we’ve been led astray, and what we can do to take back control of our health.

Nothing new to see here

As a reader/listener who consumes a lot of contemporary information on the subjects metabolic physiology, nutrition and anthropology, this author rehashes a narrative that has, for some time now, coincided with the growth of chronic diseases born of the Standard American Diet but, with an emphasis on fructose. The authors message is that fructose drives cravings. I do agree with this. However, so do other facets of food like mouth feel, umami, process food additives, salt and sweet flavors. The author proposes a diet very similar to the Mediterranean diet he calls the Switch diet. Interestingly, this diet promotes five portions of whole fruit each day. Modern farm fruit is a significant source of fructose, the exact deleterious monosaccharide that is the focus of this book. The author is however, transparent about his involvement in research toward the creation of a fructose beta blocker.

Malcomb’s writing style and subject knowledge had my attention through to the very end! I highly recommend the book.
