Historia
In the year 2107, the world has both made astounding leaps forward and reduced humanity to its most basic existence. While the megacorps and those who rule them enjoy lives of extraordinary comfort and ease, most people barely scrape by, doing whatever they can to keep going. Juliet Bianchi is one of the latter. She works cutting metal in a scrapyard and doesn't have much to show for it except for a small group of equally bereft, fiercely loyal friends. Still, she maintains a bright disposition, possessing more hope and optimism than anyone would expect her to—and she's going to need it.

No RPG?!?
Revisado: 11-16-24
I’m not sure why this was lumped into LitRPG. It’s a vaguely reasonable escapist fantasy about a kinda sorta cyborg / cyberpunk kid in a “don’t look at it too closely” futuristic world. It has all the gloss of a SciFi book with none of the depth. Fine for an easy listen but it won’t hold up in the long run.
I don’t object to people enjoying it but know what you’re getting into — a mostly formulaic underworld joy ride with a cutesy girl protagonist.

Historia
In the world of Gnomon, citizens are constantly observed and democracy has reached a pinnacle of "transparency". Every action is seen, every word is recorded, and the System has access to its citizens' thoughts and memories - all in the name of providing the safest society in history. When suspected dissident Diana Hunter dies in government custody, it marks the first time a citizen has been killed during an interrogation. The System doesn't make mistakes, but something isn't right about the circumstances surrounding Hunter's death.

Narration is Horrible
Revisado: 06-24-23
This may or may not be a good book, I can’t actually listen to it. The narration is appalling. It’s read in a tone as if someone is at a bad poetry reading trying to be dark and brooding. Each sentence is read as a statement rather than as a story. It’s exhausting. I’ll have to pick up a paper copy.

Historia
When Yang Wei travels to C City for work, he expects nothing more than a standard business trip. A break from his day-to-day routine, a good paycheck, a nice hotel—nothing too extravagant, of course. No fuss, but all the amenities. But this is where his problems begin. A complimentary bottle of mineral water from the hotel minibar results in sudden and debilitating stomach pain, followed by unconsciousness. When he wakes three days later, things don’t improve; they get worse. With no explanation, the hotel forcibly sends him to a hospital for examination.

Deeply Disappointing
Revisado: 06-08-23
I, too, quit after several chapters. I can see there might have been an attempt at hyperbole or satire (or a combination of both) but it just didn’t resonate. I had no idea where it was going. I thought, for a while, “Maybe this is Candide of the future.” but in the long run it wasn’t particularly witty or poignant. The protagonist made ridiculous choices and his mental model wasn’t believable or imaginable.
Next time, I’ll pay closer attention to reviews when Audible recommends a title. Perhaps this is poorly translated? Who knows.
