Historia
My name is Mercy Thompson Hauptman, and my mate, Adam, is the werewolf who leads the Columbia Basin Pack, the pack charged with keeping the people who live and work in the Tri-Cities of Washington State safe. It’s a hard job, and it doesn’t leave much room for side quests. Which is why when I needed to travel to Montana to help my brother, I intended to go by myself.

cliffhanger
Revisado: 06-29-24
As usual, the author has crafted a great story. intrigue, romance, thriller all in one.
this is the first time, however she has left us with a cliffhanger. I mean she wrapped up the main story and put a pretty bow on it. but there are so many other side stories going on does she left hanging. she made sure to include them in this book so that we would have a premise I suppose for the story to continue in whichever book is next.

was worth spending my credit on
Revisado: 08-14-23
Contrary to my username, I am a cisgender woman, 48 years old.
A few weeks ago I was interacting with the author on his YouTube channel in the comments section. I told him he had a sexy voice or something similar to that and he should narrate audiobooks. He promptly informed me that he had and here was a link for it lol. I was pleasantly surprised to find out he was also the author.
I enjoy listening to audiobooks when the author narrates the story. That is because they know the inflection and intent behind the character's words and actions because they are the ones that brought the characters to life. This book / narration was no different. I enjoyed listening to him read his own story. The only negative comment I will put in this entire review is that he did not change the actual voices when he jumped between characters. There were a couple of occasions when I had to hit the back button to figure out who was supposed to be the one talking.
Regardless, the premise behind the book as well as the actions and reactions of the characters involved are all believable and spot-on. In today's world of short attention spans and internet drama driven by social media, everything in this book could be a true event. Even to the way it kind of just fizzled out in the end and people went on about their lives. That's what really happens to today's news stories. Does anybody remember what the result was of the Toyotas with the sticking gas pedals? No. Once the shock value part of the story was over, no one ever followed up on it.
Similar to being fans of "Dexter", it's kind of ambiguous as to who you should be rooting for in this story. Mostly because we all have in our heads a separate sense of 'justice' versus a sense of 'law & order'. Just because something is legal or illegal doesn't necessarily mean that it is good or bad. That's a decision every individual must make for themselves. Do you root for justice or do you root for law? Then at the end of the day it doesn't matter because tomorrow nobody will remember it anyway. Like the "Occupy" movement, which eventually tapered down to hippies camping out in parks, or the black lives matter movement which ended up being just as much financial fiasco shenanigans as it ever was a legitimate progressive movement, the 100 could have possibly gone somewhere had the country not been so divided about every single thing.
Sorry, that might have been a spoiler.
Regardless, it was worth the listen, and I highly recommend it.
Also, for shits and giggles, you should look up the author on youtube. I'm pretty sure he's a stand-up comedian also. Multi-talented and all.

There I was, freezing to death, when three men came to my rescue and thawed the icicles around my heart. There's one little problem: They aren't human. I got 5 hours in and just couldn't handle listening to another second of the female narrator.
It's absolutely awful. if she was an actress on stage I would say she was desperately over acting. She ended. Every. Single. Sentence. On an inhale of breath. Snd very whiny.
The male narrator was much better, but even so, I don't know that I would listen to anything else he narrates.
This was supposed to be a "shifter romance", and the author left out most of the stuff about shifting. And if it is in the last 3 hours of the book, I don't understand why I would have to wade through almost 3/4 of the book to get there. You could literally change out the word "shifters" for almost any other descriptor and it would not change the course of the story by very much.
it lacked a plot. it lacked any character growth. it was tepid at best.
I regret wasting my credit on this.

the narrator sounds 12. she doesn't do a male voice. this whole thing is just cringe-worthy. but only for the narration. the book itself has a good storyline although it does have slightly pedophile vibes.
do yourself a favor and read this one, don't listen to it. this should be a really hot steamy romance and instead it is a childhood infatuation.
don't do it

I mean, the book should have ended five hours before it did.
I realize that would have left the storyline open, but a sequel would have been much better than just dragging this one on and on and on ad nauseum.
The storyline is actually pretty good. The character development is okay. The voice actor is doing the male parts though just absolutely drill holes in my brain. And after a while the female character just grates on the nerves as well. every. single. cintas. she says. is breathless and full of trepidation or angst. it just doesn't get any better as the story progresses.
Then she goes from being kind of normal with a little bit of anxiety and other issues to being a nymphomaniac. but the sex scenes are not really that great. at the beginning she could barely cuss or talk about sex without serious blushing, then just out of the blue she's talking about bj and fucking her pussy. No. Just no.
I couldn't finish it. Having a second book to follow the first one meeting as a separate story where she is coming into her own and learning etc would have been way preferable to just dropping it all on your head in the middle of the book.
Timing. Is. Everything.
This book is seriously lacking.

The vampire Wulfe is missing. Since he’s deadly, possibly insane, and his current idea of “fun” is stalking me, some may see it as no great loss. But, warned that his disappearance might bring down the carefully constructed alliances that keep our pack safe, my mate and I must find Wulfe—and hope he’s still alive. As alive as a vampire can be, anyway.

another hit
Revisado: 08-24-22
this one has a lot more ethereal type situations and moments than the other books. it feels like character growth is moving Mercy more towards magical. I'm not sure where the author is going with her and Stefan's relationship, but it's kind of stagnated the last several books and I'm getting curious as to where it's going. there were a couple of times through the series where they've had a really strong bond and I keep waiting to see what's going to happen but then nothing happens.
regardless, this was an excellent story and of course the narrator was perfect because no one else can be Mercy.

Historia
Somedays Jena Crowe just can't get a break. Work at her diner never ends, her two boys are bundles of energy, and she's pretty sure her oldest is about to shift into something furry or feathery. Added to that, changes seem to be coming to the tiny town of Cambio Springs, big changes that not everyone in the isolated town of shapeshifters is thrilled about. Caleb Gilbert was looking for change, and the quiet desert town seemed just the ticket for a more peaceful life.

incredibly boring narrator
Revisado: 06-09-22
I'm just having a really hard time getting into this book. I'm several chapters in and I just can't stand the narrator. she doesn't really separate the voices so everybody sounds the same. plus she's just very emotionless and flat.
I'm really disappointed because all the hallmarks are there for this to be an excellent series. I don't have time to read the books as I drive for a living. but this narrator is putting me to sleep.
I can't believe I wasted the credit on it.

Good book, bad narration
Revisado: 02-03-21
If you liked the narration on the first few books, you will absolutely HATE this one. I can't stand when they change the narrator halfway through a series. The narrator for the first few books actually sounded mostly like what I imagined they sounded like when I read the series a couple years ago. Aside from the pronunciation of a few things that is.
THIS one seems as if either she didn't bother to read the description of what the characters were supposed to sound like (ivy is supposed to be deep and sensual for instance while Quinn is supposed to be a gravely husky type), or else she deliberately is doing exactly the opposite of every single voice the first narrator did. I really did try to be objective and listen to it as if it was the first book in the series and I had never heard the first narrator. But I have to say, if this had been the first one I had listened to, I would never have listened to another one. she does not separate voices on each other so you're not sure who is saying what. And her pronunciation of some words just grates on the nerves. I don't know this narrator from anything else, but she sounds like she might be good reading velveteen rabbit or dr. Seuss or something to children.
Do yourself a favor, read this book. Don't waste your money listening to it.

Seriously. The narrator is awful. I can't even get through the second chapter The dude is chewing gum.
first of all, the book is written in a female's perspective and the narrator is a guy. that just doesn't work for me. secondly, the narrator is really boring, his accent is awful, and he's not reading it the way it's written. this might be a great story. I actually bought this audible because of the synopsis on the book. I'm deeply regretting it. I might go read it if I get the time. because it does still sound like it would be a good book.
