Historia
I was fifteen when the Death King came for us. With a mighty black dragon and the ability to command the dead, he raised an army of our fallen soldiers to fight for him—and conquered us in the night. My father, King Laurier of Scorpion Valley, couldn’t stop him. I tried to flee but came face to face with the man in black armor, the man who looked more like a god than a human. Instead of killing me, he chose to show me mercy… but it didn’t feel like mercy. Not when the next ten years of my life are spent as a slave in the Arid Sands, digging for Black Diamonds from sunrise to sunset.

Pressure is not sexy
Revisado: 03-20-25
This is a DNF for me. the MMC obsessively pressures the FMC despite her clear and very straightforward "No. She had been SA under slavery and it was her only experience. It isn't sexy to pressure someone. It isn't just because he's a "bad" guy, he's just immature and annoying. It would have been better to leave the SA plot point out altogether. I don't know if that would have made him more tolerable, but at least it would make him a little less unlikeable.

Narrator Ruined Wyn
Revisado: 10-05-23
Love the series but I think I'm going to read this one myself because Wyn is completely ruined. In the first 3 he was sensitive and more soft-spoken. Lovely man. Now he seems clipped and WAY more aggressive. I don't even know how anyone on the production team thought this was good. No shade to the narrator themselves, I'm sure she does a great job on other books. But goodness... do your homework. When you're reading or listening to a book, the characters are very important to the reader and you can tell no one gave a single hoot about how the audience would care. What a shame.

Evil is flooding the galaxy, and for some reason, destiny has chosen me to stop it. The only problem is, I don’t know how. Luckily, I meet some men along the way who are willing to follow me on this mission. If the king could see me now, draped in leather and wielding pistols and knives rather than wearing ballgowns and reading old scrolls, he would collapse onto his golden throne.

Mary Sue and her merry band of Stu's
Revisado: 09-11-23
I desperately wanted to like this but I just couldn't get over how there was never really any stakes. Main protag was perfect at everything. And if you ever forgot about that fact you were reminded constantly about it. By the end of the book it was just weird. A lot of their lines were cheesy and almost had me lolling.
It was nice that it was a complete. You feel really satisfied that the story is over. Which is really nice in these days of endless series and multiple parts.

I don't have the words
Revisado: 05-19-22
So. This is really unexpected. I even knew it was unexpected before diving in. And I'm still unable to gather my thoughts as well as I would like. It was good, don't get me wrong. But the twists were like whiplash. I was like yeeeah, then I was like what the... this is horrible, and then I was like what is going on. In a lot of ways I feel this was very self-indulgent, which is fantastic. But I think ultimately me wondering what was happening took me out of what was happening and that's why I took a star away. Overall, great book and you should read it.

Isabelle is an absolute delight! The narrator did a fantastic job and the story is really engaging and well thought out. One of my new favorite series.
