I had been worried about the last part of this book based on some of the other reviews. But I had nothing to worry about. The whole book is amazing. Throughout the book I continually mused if Stephenson’ sheer hubris to tackle what he did. I really was not confident he could pull it off. But. He did it. And with great style.

Even now. I am going back and forth around if I am ok with this book. It is at once warm and ice cold. It is nostalgic and very sad. It is insightful and tragic. But most of all it is almost uncomfortably intimate about someone that we never had access to. And it feels like maybe we shouldn’t have had access to this level of knowledge. Outside of some really bad editing, the author does a great job reading this book in my opinion.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It is very rare that I immediately get the urge to listen to a book a second time upon completion. This book is absolutely amazing. And strangely enough, I am not quite sure why. The interweaving of different levels of meanings and subtle messages is done beautifully and gives this book a graceful power that soothes and enriches the soul.

What made the experience of listening to The Abyss Beyond Dreams the most enjoyable?

I LOVE Hamilton's deep, immersive, style. Of the big epic Sci Fi writers, he is easily my favorite. And this book does NOT disappoint.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Nigel, of course. :)
Duh.

Which character – as performed by John Lee – was your favorite?

Again, Nigel.

Any additional comments?

I love that Hamilton is filling in some of the gaps from the other books in the Commonwealth Universe.

Would you listen to The Fifth Discipline again? Why?

Again and again!

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Fifth Discipline?

I could listen to the Beer Game over and over.

Any additional comments?

This book is just fantastic. I know its abridged....which is disappointing....BUT I love this book anyway.

Would you try another book from Robert T. Kiyosaki and Sharon L. Lechter and/or Jim Ward?

Yes!

What did you like best about this story?

The Book itself is absolutely brilliant!!

Have you listened to any of Jim Ward’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This would be the first one

Any additional comments?

I found myself missing the important parts of the full book. I understand it is abridged so others might find this completely acceptable.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would definitely recommend this book to a friend who is into futurist type literature. Its a solid read and Kurzweil has a pretty good track record. Its not for everyone - and its so dry, in places, that I would even venture further to say its not for most folks.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The most interesting aspect of this book is the complete unabashed pursuit of his theories. I mean, this guy is unrelenting. He almost has me buying in. Its still too > for me to wrap my head around, but all of the science is there (for the most part anyway)

The least interesting is the long draw-out lambasting of his critics. Really, I stopped caring after the first 5 minutes. Why do you have to do ON and ON showing how much these folks are wrong. A Simple shout out to your haters would suffice. :) We already bought your book and many of us consider you an expert. No reason to waste our time with 2nd grade antics. but maybe that is just me. I dunno.

What didn’t you like about George K. Wilson’s performance?

At first I hated it. Then I was OK with it. Then I found it endearing. but by the end I was SO ready for the book to be over. I am not sure if it was the narrator or the lambasting of critics(see above)

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No extreme reactions. but I don't believe that to be the intent.

Any additional comments?

I almost don't think I recommend this is an Audible book. Not sure yet, though. there were tons of places where seeing the numbers on paper would help. but then again, the way my time goes, I never would have read this book any other way. So there you have it.
