Historia
This is a story that starts off close and goes very big. The initial part of the story might sound familiar at first: it is about a platoon of mostly 19-year-old boys sent to Afghanistan, and an experience that ends abruptly in catastrophe. Their part of the story folds into the next: inexorably linked to those soldiers and never comprehensively reported before is the US Department of Defense’s quest to build the world’s most powerful biometrics database, with the ability to identify, monitor, catalog, and police people all over the world.

Fascinating review
Revisado: 10-28-22
Annie Jacobsen never disappoints, well researched and clearly presented. The narrative flows between connected segments and tells a greater story so much bigger than the sum of its parts.

Historia
Inner-city Black America is often stereotyped as a place of random violence; in fact, violence in the inner city is regulated through an informal but well-known code of the street. How you dress, talk, and behave can have life-or-death consequences, with young people particularly at risk. The most powerful force counteracting this code and its reign of terror is the strong, loving, decent family, and we meet many heroic figures in the course of this narrative.

2nd half is worth reading the 1st half
Revisado: 07-24-22
The buildup and background information was a bit slow and took a long time. I almost stopped reading a few times until the book finally turned. The last half of the book is a very personal look at the factors outlined in the beginning. The ending is very powerful.

Uncle Tim and Uncle Jacob want you!!!
Revisado: 05-04-22
Imagine if Daria seduced both Beavis and Butthead; then proceeded to drink hard liquor for 9 months straight, and attempt to deliver twins with a coat hanger. All before force feeding them hot pockets, cigarettes and beer for about 25-35 years. Imagine if these 2 made a podcast, and if you don’t get the reference you should definitely listen, because you deserve it.
