Historia
Having discovered her true heritage, young Gatina is embracing her evolving role as an apprentice shadowthief. It turns out procuring things that don’t actually belong to you can be rather exciting. But the first thing a good thief must learn is how to not get caught. If the evil usurper Count Vichetral snares Gatina or her beloved family, a truly unpleasant fate awaits. So her defiant father has deposited Gatina and her brother in the last place Vichetral’s men would think to look for them: stately Palomar Abbey.

Very very dry and slow start

If you can make it through the first half of this. It gets better and there are some nuggets of info in here. But man was it painful.

Middle School Humor
Revisado: 06-10-20
This book for a little too middle school ish. There was an entire chapter about poop and the author is enamored with his twigs and berries. I enjoyed the previous books. This one got worse as it went on. Didn’t really accomplish much. I was ok with a filler book to introduce new concepts and progressions, but I felt like he rushed out the last few chapters just to get it done. Nick is great as usual.

Historia
Five years ago Corin Cadence's brother entered the Serpent Spire - a colossal tower with ever-shifting rooms, traps, and monsters. Those who survive the spire's trials return home with an attunement: a mark granting the bearer magical powers. According to legend, those few who reach the top of the tower will be granted a boon by the spire's goddess. He never returned. Now it's Corin's turn. He's headed to the top floor, on a mission to meet the goddess.

Good overall with some issues
Revisado: 11-02-17
I enjoyed this book. The magic/technology system is very intriguing. The author introduces characters and then promptly forgets about them. He can be overly descriptive but I enjoyed learning about the world. The main character sometimes is clueless about the world he grew up in. He is born into a powerful family yet he doesn't know basics how politics, magic.etc works. The author uses this as a crutch to introduce us the audience into the concepts.
My biggest complaint is that out of nowhere the characters seem to decide they are gay/asexual/bisexual . There is nothing wrong with that, it just feels forced. The book does not set the stage for romantic story lines at all. It's like he just decided to put in a paragraph or two and then move on. I wish he would just leave that out.

Bridge book between two story lines
Revisado: 05-20-14
Any additional comments?
This books only purpose was to bridge you from the storylines of the past to move you to the next "threat". I enjoyed it but, it felt like the author had a lot of ideas that didn't get fleshed out in this book. As you read it, tangent story lines come and disappear without being followed, leaving you wondering why he even brought it up in the first place. Out of the Lost Fleet books, this is my least favorite. However, after reading this book, I am more excited about the next one, as the book does a great job of setting up a few cliffhangers that should come about next book in the series.
