A fascinating story
Revisado: 04-09-13
I've read this book many times over the past 45 years, and it is one of my favourites. When I saw that it had been recorded as an audio book, I was thrilled, and bought it immediately. However, I feel that the narration has let it down. The delivery is so stilted and pedantic, it was difficult to listen to and it took me some time to get used to it. The various European accents are excellent, but some of the characterisation seem almost ot be caricatures, very strange.
It won't stop me listening to it it again, though, but it will be in spite of the narration, not because of it.

An excellent book, but . . .
Revisado: 03-12-13
Is there anything you would change about this book?
The narrator spoiled it for me.
What did you like best about this story?
It's complexity and the way it slowly unfolds, showing the deepening feelings of the characters as she gradually begins to love.
What didn’t you like about Christine Williams’s performance?
Far too mannered and the accents are frankly atrocious.
Could you see The Forest Lord being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
No idea.

Historia
Ten years ago, Lilly Carmichael left town without an explanation, breaking Braden Donnelly's heart. The death of her aunt has brought Lilly home and face-to-face with memories she thought were long buried. Still getting over a traumatic incident from her work as an NSA agent, Lilly initially dismisses the face at her window as a figment of stress-induced paranoia.

Average
Revisado: 03-04-13
Would you try another book from Katie Reus and/or Eliza Foss?
Probably not
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
The identity of the killer
The fact that the supposedly expert agent was basically TSTL
How could the performance have been better?
Less emoting.
Do you think Deadly Obsession needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
No. I didn't warm to either character and don't really care to find out what happens to them. I struggled to finish the book, to be honest.

When the invitation arrived, Marlayna O'Brian was stunned. There was her ex-husband's name attached to both an engagement announcement and the opening of Kingman Castle, Jorstadt Island, in the St. Lawrence. Noah Drake walked out of her life without a word - just divorce papers. She wanted answers and he was the only man who could provide them. When Marlayna RSVP'd she had only one aim in mind: to be in Noah's arms again - no matter what she had to do to get there.

OK story, light and pleasant.
Revisado: 02-14-13
I liked the story plot line, it's a light pleasant romance, which I feel could have been more fully developed, but as a long short story/novella worked fine. I wasn't very impressed with the narrator, though she did a better than usual attempt at an English accent.

Historia
Tory Bodeen grew up in a run-down house where her father ruled with an iron fist and a leather belt - and where her dreams and talents had no room to flourish. Her one escape was her neighbor Hope, who lived in the big house just a short skip away, and whose friendship allowed Tory to be something she wasn’t allowed to be at home: a child. Then Hope was brutally murdered, and everything fell apart.

Great story, awful narration
Revisado: 01-14-13
One of Nora's best, but the narration is dreadful. Emotionless, deadpan, dry and read as if she can't wait to finish it. Awful

Historia
New York Times best-selling author Catherine Anderson whisks listeners away to Oregon for a suspense-filled romance. Faking her own death to escape her murderous husband, Rainie takes refuge in the rural community of Crystal Falls, where she finds work as a bookkeeper on a horse ranch run by Parker Harrigan. But as their initial attraction blossoms, Rainie fears she can’t continue to elude the man who has sworn to kill her - and that her mere presence could jeopardize everything the Harrigan family holds dear.

Inspirational romance rather than suspense
Revisado: 01-11-13
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
It reads like an inspirational romance rather than romantic suspense, with the most un-Alpha hero I have ever encountered. I don't have a problem with him saying grace before meals, but the message is rather pushed. And he goes to ask his father if it's OK to have feelings for a woman he suspects is married. Come on!
What was most disappointing about Catherine Anderson’s story?
It just didn't go anywhere. There is no 'action', where is the suspense? At least, not as far as I've listened - about a third of the way through, and I can't bear to listen to any more to find out if it improves, I'm afraid.
Also, I don't find the characters sympathetic - I don't really care whether they get together in the end or not. They are cardboard cutouts, there is no real depth to them
How did the narrator detract from the book?
She makes Rainie - and the other female characters I've encountered - sound quite 'whiny', giving them sugary sweet voices that grates on me. Also, her pronounciation of some words, is frankly bizarre, as if she'd never encountered them before and is making up what she thinks they should sound like. The emphasis is on the wrong part of the word.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Not for me, I'm afraid
Any additional comments?
I'ts the first and last Catherine Anderson I'll be listening to. I really dislike this book and it's put me off trying others. Also, I'll listen more carefully to the samples from now on to see whether I can stand the narrator's voice.

Excellent start to the series
Revisado: 01-10-13
I loved this!
Feisty heroine and seriously hot Hero Seal, with a hint of paranormal in the psychic link between them. She is clearly a Linda Howard fan, and I loved the little hints to some of her favourite books in some of the characters names and situations. There seem to be clear clues to further books with the secondary characters, but it's going to be a long wait till the next one - not till September!

Slow
Revisado: 01-08-13
An initially TSTL heroine in a slow story, which only livened up in the last hour or so. It appears to be the third in a series, but I can't say I'm tempted to listen to them. It's not awful, but certainly not a book I'd bother listening to twice..
