Sheriff Walt Longmire is enjoying a celebratory beer after a weapons certification at the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy when a younger sheriff confronts him with a photograph of 25 armed men standing in front of a Challenger steam locomotive. It takes him back to when, fresh from the battlefields of Vietnam, then-deputy Walt accompanied his mentor Lucian to the annual Wyoming Sheriff's Association junket held on the excursion train known as the Western Star, which ran the length of Wyoming from Cheyenne to Evanston and back.

Too much left hanging! Can’t believe you did this to us! Some good flashbacks on Walt’s wife.

Good story, well read, you know how it ends
Revisado: 09-30-07
A fascinating story well told, if you're one of those who can actually suspend disbelief. I always think I'm not, but I do get caught up in the tale.
The fact that the scenario is entirely implausible lurks behind every scene, but a memorable cast of characters does emerge. The heroine is good-hearted, iconoclastic, rebellious, loyal, strong and funny, and the "history" rings true.
The language waffles between attempting to sound authentically mid-19th century, as one would expect in a personal journal, and quite modern, as in "God, Martha, that would be very low on my list of priorities." Still, an entertaining and predictably tragic story.
I like this reader very much. Pleasant voice, good characterizations, and no creepy transgender voices when reading the male characters' lines.
If you're looking for an entertaining story, by all means, have a listen. But if you read to fight insomnia, this is not your choice. I couldn't sleep the rest of the night after I finished the story.

Deeply moving, a great listen
Revisado: 11-27-05
One of my favorite Audible selections. Opening with a funeral, ending with a wedding, with a wealth of humor, tragedy, and original characters, the story ends all too soon. Bloodworth introduces a handful of memorable, flawed players you will be glad to know, without once falling into the trap of predictability. Very well read, too. The female reader manages to create unique vocal characters without slipping into caricature, as women readers often do when creating male voices. I heartily endorse Ms. Bloodworth's fiction debut and look forward to her next release.

One of the best I've enjoyed with Audible
Revisado: 01-11-05
"Broken for You" is original on many levels, fresh in concept, looking at a theme rarely examined in fiction: the question of how to live with an ill-gotten legacy. The prose is well crafted and the plot is vibrant, with characters who are both flawed and sympathetic. I found it difficult to put this story aside and replayed portions of it several times.
The reader is wonderful, with a pleasant, clear voice for the narration and a strong delineation between the characters. I've enjoyed her reading in other works as well. I highly recommend this book.
