Historia
Sethe was born a slave and escaped to Ohio, but eighteen years later she is still not free. Sethe has too many memories of Sweet Home, the beautiful farm where so many hideous things happened. And Sethe’s new home is haunted by the ghost of her baby, who died nameless and whose tombstone is engraved with a single word: Beloved.

Beauty in the Ugliness of Life
Revisado: 04-25-25
I am amazed at how beautifully written is this story of the horrors of slavery and it's legacy. It is made better in the listening because Toni Morrison owns her words and speaks them in perfect rhythm.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

My 15 year old and I loved it. Excellent humor and just enough drama. Andy does it again. We can wait for movie/mini-series options.

Entertaining and Long, Very Long...
Revisado: 11-12-22
As a fan, I love learning things about the man behind the image. Of course this means learning what you like and don't like about your favorite icons. I am grateful Will shows us a glimpse of his whole self. He was real with fans about his journey. What more can we ask for? Maybe fewer words to say the same thing.

Historia
Gracie Reed is doing just fine. Sure, she was fired by her overly “friendly” boss, and yes, she still hasn’t gotten her mother into the nursing home of their dreams, but she’s healthy, she’s (somewhat) happy, and she’s (mostly) holding it all together. But when a mysterious SUV pulls up beside her, revealing Chinese cinema's golden couple Wei Fangli and Sam Yao, Gracie’s world is turned on its head. The famous actress has a proposition: Due to their uncanny resemblance, Fangli wants Gracie to be her stand-in.

Entertaining in the way of a hallmark movie. All problems solved too neatly. I'll still watch the Amazon production when they do it.

Historia
Jason Fitger is a beleaguered professor of creative writing and literature at Payne University, a small and not very distinguished liberal arts college in the midwest. His department is facing draconian cuts and squalid quarters, while one floor above them the Economics Department is getting lavishly remodeled offices. His once-promising writing career is in the doldrums, as is his romantic life, in part as the result of his unwise use of his private affairs for his novels.

Fantastically Clever
Revisado: 09-01-20
Clever portrayal of a college professor through his writing of numerous recommendation letters. I am amazed that so much of his character, ideals, and personal life could be conveyed in such a way. This book was an absolute treasure.

Historia
In this “vital, necessary, and beautiful book” (Michael Eric Dyson), antiracist educator Robin DiAngelo deftly illuminates the phenomenon of white fragility and “allows us to understand racism as a practice not restricted to 'bad people'" (Claudia Rankine). Referring to the defensive moves white people make when challenged racially, white fragility is characterized by emotions such as anger, fear, and guilt and by behaviors including argumentation and silence. These behaviors, in turn, function to reinstate white racial equilibrium and prevent meaningful cross-racial dialogue.

Think, Reflect and Act
Revisado: 06-22-20
This book challenges the status quo on white people and race work. I loved it because I am challenged. My actions and beliefs about racism were identified. Now I have to decide where to begin on what I need to change. Really, the book is the easy part, the hard part begins after.

How did Fidel Castro fool the CIA for a generation? Why did Neville Chamberlain think he could trust Adolf Hitler? Why are campus sexual assaults on the rise? Do television sitcoms teach us something about the way we relate to each other that isn't true? While tackling these questions, Malcolm Gladwell was not solely writing a book for the page. He was also producing for the ear. In the audiobook version of Talking to Strangers, you’ll hear the voices of people he interviewed - scientists, criminologists, military psychologists.

Amazing Insight To Human Behavior
Revisado: 04-20-20
This book is a game changer in understanding so much of our human behaviors. I was amazed to learn about our natural default to truth, our inability to except a new research based narrative, the concept of coupling and how it impacts suicide, crime and who knows how much else! Malcolm Gladwell excels at framing this story. His research and analysis of ideas are ripe for the common man...if only we would listen and respond to what we learn.

A Story Of Family

This is a hard look at what it is to be family through the up and down of life. It can be funny and heartbreaking, heart building and even normal. I liked it, but you have to be in the mood for something real.
