Propaganda
Revisado: 03-22-25
I disliked this book. It felt like political propaganda for kids. The dialogue was outdated, as were the characters.

Historia
The Christmas season is supposed to be full of joy, but not for Mark Smart. Life has dealt him one blow after another, until one snowy November night, when he meets a beautiful young woman who will change his life forever. Macy Wood has little memory of her birth parents, and memories she'd rather forget of her adopted home.

A year earlier, Seattle advertising executive Alan Christoffersen lost everything he held dear - his beloved wife was killed in a terrible accident; his partner stole his business from him; and the bank foreclosed on his home when he couldn’t pay the mortgage. With seemingly nothing left to live for, Alan set out to walk from Seattle to the farthest point on the map, Key West. And now, after walking more than two thousand miles on a journey filled with surprises, dangers, and revelations, he approaches his destination - and the most important decision of his life.

Ordinary Beauty
Revisado: 11-27-24
I loved the daily nuances and activities of the main character. The plot was an awesome idea made feasible for an average person to imagine themselves literally in the protagonist’s shoes. The messages, wisdom, and advice along the way are inspiring, uplifting, and powerful. I’d say the only reason this isn’t a 5 star read for me is that at times, some events are too dramatic or unbelievable (particularly the cult). My favorite part of the series is the accurate descriptions of the journey. I loved the author’s message at the end and how he actually traveled this route by car with his oldest daughter.

Historia
In 1977, Terri Jentz and her Yale roommate, Shayna Weiss, make a cross-country bike trip. They pitch a tent in the desert of central Oregon. As they are sleeping, a man in a pickup truck deliberately runs over the tent. He then attacks them with an ax. No one is ever arrested. Both women survive, but Shayna suffers from amnesia, while Terri is left alone with memories of the attack. Their friendship is shattered. Fifteen years later, Terri returns to the small town where she was nearly murdered, on the first of many visits she will make "to solve the crime that would solve me".

Wow. I had spent time in the area and had heard the story of the Cline Falls murder. (Attempted but things changed over time) This was a riveting investigation by the author and victim herself. It’s unbelievable the criminal was not held accountable.
