Historia
Lee Fiora is an intelligent, observant 14-year-old when her father drops her off in front of her dorm at the prestigious Ault School in Massachusetts. She leaves her animated, affectionate family in South Bend, Indiana, at least in part because of the boarding school’s glossy brochure, in which boys in sweaters chat in front of old brick buildings, girls in kilts hold lacrosse sticks on pristinely mown athletic fields, and everyone sings hymns in chapel.

Astonishingly racist
Revisado: 09-14-24
This title has not aged well at all. It is consistently racist and after giving it 8 hours, thinking it would potentially be a character evolution arc I can tell you: it isn't. It never gets better. The protagonist is not believable and doesn't seem to care about anything other than 'boys' as written by the male author. To the extent that she has no empathy whatsoever for a friend who has attempted suicide. Don't waste your time. There's nothing to learn, nothing to enjoy, and plenty to lose.

Historia
Snow and Rose didn't know they were in a fairytale. People never do.... Once, they lived in a big house with spectacular gardens and an army of servants. Once, they had a father and mother who loved them more than the sun and moon. But that was before their father disappeared into the woods and their mother disappeared into sorrow. This is the story of two sisters and the enchanted woods that have been waiting for them to break a set of terrible spells.

Boring
Revisado: 08-18-24
Very much a YA novel and not at all an interesting one for adults. I was looking for more like the adult Alice in Wonderland Madness Returns vibe but this isn't it. The story is not engaging even for the age group.

Historia
We’re constantly seeking answers to these fundamental human questions, and now, science has the answers. The foods we enjoy, the people we love, the emotions we feel, and the beliefs we hold can all be traced back to our DNA, germs, and environment. This witty, colloquial book is popular science at its best, describing in everyday language how genetics, epigenetics, microbiology, and psychology work together to influence our personality and actions.

Historia
A passionate polemic in favor of pausing to think, not blink. What do these scenarios have in common: a professional tennis player returning a serve, a woman evaluating a first date across the table, a naval officer assessing a threat to his ship, and a comedian about to reveal a punch line? In this counterintuitive and insightful work, author Frank Partnoy weaves together findings from hundreds of scientific studies and interviews with wide-ranging experts to craft a picture of effective decision making that runs contrary to our brutally fast-paced world.

Great book. I learned a lot as I always do from her, but I honestly wish she hadn't narrated her own book. Talk about hijacking the narrative lol

Great story!
Revisado: 02-08-22
Excellent idea. just a bummer that the sound production is so bad. Headphones help but the daughter was extremely loud and the dad was so quiet that I was changing the volume every ten seconds. Also as a veterinarian I just have to say: dominance theory has long been denounced by the guy who published it. Meaning no one, let alone any self respecting veterinarian, should be citing it as a reason dogs can't sleep in beds 🤣

Historia
Self-care is everywhere - but sound bites on this trendy subject tend to focus more on face masks and bubble baths than on its key objective: mental health. Formerly at BuzzFeed, Borges helped popularize the self-care movement in the first place, and her book distills the “self-care internet” into an A to Z list with over two hundred entries - from soul-searching prompts to simple pick-me-ups. Listeners can tailor their own routines by choosing among Borges’s strategies, which cover four distinctive realms of self-care: physical, mental, social, and spiritual.
