Amazingly clear,simple, inviting
Revisado: 05-03-23
This book is amazing! The author writes simply and keeps my interest. He often repeats and reviews what he said previously to make sure the information is clear and remembered. I will probably read this book several times, and start incorporating the suggestions into my life.

Life has a way of provoking us with traffic jams and computer malfunctions, with emotionally distant partners and crying children - and before we know it, we're upset. We feel terrible, and then we end up saying and doing things that only make matters worse. But it doesn't have to be that way, says Pema Chödrön. It is possible to relate constructively to the inevitable shocks, losses, and frustrations of life so that we can find true happiness. The key, Pema explains, is not biting the "hook" of our habitual responses.

Historia
At 22, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother's death, her family scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed. Four years later, with nothing more to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life: to hike the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State - and to do it alone. She had no experience as a long-distance hiker, and the trail was little more than “an idea, vague and outlandish and full of promise.” But it was a promise of piecing back together a life that had come undone.

I wouldn’t do it!
Revisado: 07-22-22
I’m amazed by Cheryl‘s tenacity and courage. The story itself is amazing, frightening even, but unfolds carefully in a believable turn of events. The author’s use of language, her ability to weave the story with continuity, and her graphic detail of images and scenes held my attention throughout. I hated it, and I loved it. I was gripped by this journey and the revelations Cheryl discovered…Truly Ms Strayed is a gifted writer. I would recommend it to anyone, and particularly anyone wanting to try long-distance trail-walking.

Historia
Why is religion still around in the 21st century? Why do so many still believe? And how do various traditions still shape the way people experience everything from sexuality to politics, whether they are religious or not? In Why Religion? Elaine Pagels looks to her own life to help address these questions. Drawing upon the perspectives of neurologists, anthropologists, and historians, as well as her own research, Pagels opens unexpected ways of understanding persistent religious aspects of our culture.

An Inspirational Read
Revisado: 11-17-21
This book was informative, sad, funny, full of loving-kindness to others. Ms Pagels is an amazing writer - so easy to read! So absorbing! I was totally immersed in her narrative, finding it difficult to put down. I am very impressed that she could relate her story with such vulnerability and sorrow, drawing the reader into the "beauty" of her love. I feel like she showed us how to come through difficult situations as a stronger, wiser person. Her humor, her connection to her friends, her ability to ask for what she wants/needs with such grace is an inspiration for me. Her ability to look at religion with clarity and understanding helps me to absorb the "meaning" of some of the stories and traditions I have carried in a new way. Enlightening.

Sojourner Truth was born a slave in 1797. One day, she decided she didn’t want to be a slave anymore and simply walked away from her master. Truth spent the rest of her life preaching and lecturing against slavery and for freedom and equality. While helping former slaves integrate into a free society, she lectured fervently against the discriminations against women, and especially African American women. Her speech “Ain’t I a Woman?” is considered one of the most riveting women’s rights speeches ever given.

What a Woman!
Revisado: 11-17-21
I loved this book! I felt like the book was well read by Jason Zenobia and, although too short, it did give me a better understanding of who she is and why it is important to know her. She was quite a woman. It is amazing to me what she accomplished as a Black Woman in an era that was patriarchial, racist, and had no respect for women, black or white. She let nothing stop her from speaking the truth and reaching the goals she set for herself. What a woman!

Deep down here by the dark water lived old Gollum, a small slimy creature. I don’t know where he came from, nor who or what he was. He was Gollum—as dark as darkness, except for two big round pale eyes in his thin face. He had a little boat, and he rowed about quite quietly on the lake; for lake it was, wide and deep and deadly cold.

Simply Amazing
Revisado: 09-30-20
This book easily held my attention and gave me much needed information. It opened up many areas I want to explore. The reader was able to hold my attention and did an excellent job of reading smoothly and steady, as if he was talking to me.
I don’t have anything that I disliked. It was written well; it was interesting. It made me think. It was read well, and I want to hear it again.
