Historia
It’s an unusual winter vacation for the Alden family when a huge snowstorm traps them in the woods! Luckily, the log cabin where they’re staying is cozy - only there are strange noises in the night and a mysterious code carved into the closet door. The rescue is a long wait for the Boxcar Children, but the cabin is full of secrets.

Historia
Pulitzer-winning journalist and best-selling author (Freeman) Leonard Pitts, Jr.'s new historical novel is a great American tale of race and war, following three characters from the Jim Crow South as they face the enormous changes World War II triggers in the United States. An affluent white marine survives Pearl Harbor at the cost of a black messman's life only to be sent, wracked with guilt, to the Pacific and taken prisoner by the Japanese.

Frustratingly one dimensional
Revisado: 05-20-19
Stopped listening after 10 hours when I realized all the characters would be one dimensional and the story would just keep descending into the grotesque. The author seems to have been more interested in presenting a steady string of awfulness than telling a real human story with goodness and evil in tension. The worst of human history has been mashed up in a long, predictably terrible saga, and I stopped when I realized there would be no redemption, no rewarded courage, no interest in including any of the flawed but noble men and women who also existed in this era and battled against all the circumstances depicted. To read this is to step into a fictional United States that didn’t possess a single white person of moral decency or courage in the mid-20th century, when all black citizens were also merely helpless victims.

Historia
From one of Outside magazine's "Literary All-Stars" comes the thrilling true tale of the fastest boat ride ever, down the entire length of the Colorado River and through the Grand Canyon, during the legendary flood of 1983. In the spring of 1983, massive flooding along the length of the Colorado River confronted a team of engineers at the Glen Canyon Dam with an unprecedented emergency that may have resulted in the most catastrophic dam failure in history.

Thrilling, touching, inspiring, and enlightening

Haven’t enjoyed an audiobook so much since the Boys in the Boat. I learned so much about a place I revere, and the forces that threaten it, even as I was swept along with the story of the men who chased a record I would never have even dreamed of.

Historia
In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

Funny and fascinating
Revisado: 01-12-17
What made the experience of listening to Born a Crime the most enjoyable?
I love hearing authors read their own work. Trevor Noah, a man who talks for a living, is a great narrator. The stories he tells are wonderful, funny and heartfelt in equal measure. And to hear them told in his own voice just adds to the excellent material. This is a book that I would highly recommend in the audio version.
What about Trevor Noah’s performance did you like?
He has an impeccable sense of comedic timing. But above all I love the range of his narration. He tells jokes, but he also tells powerful, poignant stories and does so with candor and grace. Trevor Noah is the best kind of comic-- one who sees the seriousness behind his comedy, and uses the two in tandem to enrich our understanding of the world.
Any additional comments?
Born a Crime is a must-listen!
