Historia
Reverend Willie Maxwell was a rural preacher accused of murdering five of his family members for insurance money in the 1970s. With the help of a savvy lawyer, he escaped justice for years until a relative shot him dead at the funeral of his last victim. Despite hundreds of witnesses, Maxwell's murderer was acquitted—thanks to the same attorney who had previously defended the reverend. Casey Cep brings this story to life, from the shocking murders to the courtroom drama to the racial politics of the Deep South.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Lots of explanatory details without getting mired in them. Loved the reader’s voice, meter and softened Alabama accent.

Historia
“When David was old and well advanced in years, he could not keep warm even when they put covers over him” (1 Kings 1: 1). Old and sick, the consequences of David’s sin continue to dog him. Adonijah, now David’s eldest surviving son, engineers a palace coup to overthrow David. When David learns of the plot, he anoints his son, Solomon, as king (970-930 B.C.). As David’s tenth son, Solomon is nowhere close to being heir to the throne, but David raises him to power to fulfill a promise made to Bathsheba.

Excellent method to learn vocab & speak Spanish
Revisado: 03-10-19
I've been speaking Spanish (Tex -Mex) sporadically for 50 years. It takes you thru verbs, pronouns and then gives you a repeat of words learned in previous lessons. Males & female speakers show you how to say each word, phrase & common sentences in daily life. Great refresher for speaking correctly, both formal & informal, and corrected bad habits in 3 or 4 verbs. I will go thru it again and practice my pronunciation and verb conjugation.

Historia
Written considerably later that the Synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark, and Luke), John takes a very different approach to the Gospel story. Traditionally attributed to the "Beloved Apostle" John, this Gospel doesn’t give us yet another version of the events in Jesus’ public ministry; John illustrates what those events mean in light of 60 years of reflection upon them. The Gospel according to John is a brilliant book, and it offers us a profoundly intimate glimpse into the person and work of Jesus Christ.

it's the details
Revisado: 01-02-19
I've listened to several Dr Creasy's Bible books. John was the best. Details that put me there beside the Jordan river, inside the upper room at Martha's and and in the synagogue with Jesus teaching - these windows into that time helped me collate the facts into a cohesive record. Dr Creasy's best lesson is the Gospel of John.

Ezra and Nehemiah tell the story of those who return to Judah to rebuild the temple and Jerusalem. In fact, little more than 40,000 people return, only about 10% of the Jewish population in the Persian Empire. Esther tells the story of the 90% who remain behind. This is a fabulous story - and Dr. Creasy tells us the “X-rated” version!

Get your notebooks out from the beginning. Dr Creasy really helped me with dates of kings, the sacking & rebuilding and by whom, of Jerusalem and the king knives names. Listening Esther that era to help me understand how it fit together.

Historia
James, the brother of the Lord and leader of the church in Jerusalem, writes this epistle, sometime before A.D. 70. Paul had been very clear that we are saved by grace through faith in the person and work of Jesus Christ. At the Council of Jerusalem in A.D. 50, Peter, Paul, James and the other Apostles concurred with Paul’s position, and it is James who, as leader of the church in Jerusalem, orders that a letter be written to all the churches explaining the Council’s decision. In his epistle, James does not contradict himself by arguing the contrary....

History is full of surprises
Revisado: 03-13-15
Where does The Secret Keeper rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This was the best audiobook I have listened to. I was captivated by the characters. The description of WWII London made me ffel like I was there. The story of two young girls who lost everything and started over was woven ever so carefully across the decades from 1941 to 2011.
What did you like best about this story?
The best part was the surprise at the end. I would never have guessed it and yet it made so much sense.
Which character – as performed by Caroline Lee – was your favorite?
Vivien was such a mystical creature full of life and secrets.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I couldn't listen to it in one sitting. The breaks betweens listening sessions were filled with musings about where the story was going in the next chapter. I was always in a hurry to return to the story.
Any additional comments?
Exception story line. It was like a historical novel stretched from England to Australia and back. It was filled with the secrets that people both cherish and fear

Historia
Cleary, North Carolina, is a sleepy mountain town, the kind of place where criminal activity is usually limited to parking violations. Not so, lately. Four women have disappeared from Cleary over the past two years. And there's always a blue ribbon left near the spot where each of the women was last seen. There are no bodies, no other clues, and no suspicion as to who their abductor might be. And now, another woman has disappeared without a trace.

Snowed in with serial killer
Revisado: 10-12-14
Would you listen to Chill Factor again? Why?
I enjoyed this book. There were some twists and turns but it kept my interest. I liked it so much that I ordered Low Pressure also by Sandra Brown. There were 3 or 4 stories going at the same time so it stayed exciting and I couldn't wait to get back to the different sub-stories. This one kept you guessing all the way to the end.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Chill Factor?
It grabbed me from the very beginning at the grave site. I was on the edge of my chair when she went out to the shed to get more wood.
Which character – as performed by Stephen Lang – was your favorite?
I liked Ben Tierney although I was not sure if he was the good guy or the bad guy. It kept me wondering There were so many possibilities of who was killing those girls.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Snowed in until rescued by a man you believe may be a serial killer.
