Historia
You may be surprised to learn that microchips are the new oil—the scarce resource on which the modern world depends. Today, military, economic, and geopolitical power are built on a foundation of computer chips. Virtually everything—from missiles to microwaves—runs on chips, including cars, smartphones, the stock market, even the electric grid. Until recently, America designed and built the fastest chips and maintained its lead as the #1 superpower, but America’s edge is in danger of slipping, undermined by players in Taiwan, Korea, and Europe taking over manufacturing.

Loved the storytelling and the balance between technical and organizational details. My favorite quote is, "Real men have fabs."

This captivating story is filled with technical, logistical, social, and organizational details. Eric immerses himself in the narrative, making it feel as though he is right there, breathing down his protagonist’s neck. This is not a book that merely praises the accomplishments of SpaceX and Elon Musk; it delves much deeper.

Great story from someone who did it all
Revisado: 11-20-22
I want to crown a book in 2022. This is the one. Tony takes us in a long journey that kept evolving in between different types of failures. Be it technological or organizational. Along the way Tony collected many nuggets, digested them, and evolved them to design stellar products like Apple’s iPod and iPhone, and the nest thermostat. In Build, shares profound lessons not only about products but also about teams and organizations. What makes them unique is they don’t follow the conventional wisdom of software based products companies. There is a huge difference when it comes to hardware products and Tony gives it all.

What a journey!
Revisado: 07-31-22
I liked the attention to detail in all the phases of the story since it starts in the 1920’s up to now. The thinking behind the products and marketing is just phenomenal. Plenty of leadership lessons to learn from. I also enjoyed learning about the beauty industry and all the innovation that takes place in the background. Estée Lauder is a great innovative company. It’s a family in business and not a family business as the author asserts. Long but fulfilling.

Discover the definitive history of DARPA, the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency, in this Pulitzer Prize finalist from the author of the New York Times best seller Area 51. No one has ever written the history of the Defense Department's most secret, most powerful, and most controversial military science R&D agency. In the first-ever history about the organization, New York Times best-selling author Annie Jacobsen draws on inside sources, exclusive interviews, private documents, and declassified memos to paint a picture of DARPA, or "the Pentagon's brain".

Detail filled historical walkthrough
Revisado: 02-04-22
I liked the story nature of the narrative. It makes for a good movie. Although the beginning is very much intertwined with the war in Vietnam to the point that DARPA’s role was only related to this matter. There is no clear organizational evolution of DARAPA or how it operates.
In between the lines you get the gems like DARPA does pre-requirement research so be the time the need arises it’s already too late. Other like DARPA funds questions that someone is energized to attempt to answer them.
Overall, it’s worth the listen. Narrator is excellent and being the author was great too.

Differentiating between Decision Quality and Decision Outcomes was an AHA moment for me. Getting to know about the society of decision professionals was great takeaway. I think DQ and System Dynamics are a perfect match.
Highly recommended but requires the accompanying pdf heavily. If you are a car listener, you need to spend time on the pdf to get the full experience.

Most books about the history of humanity pursue either a historical or a biological approach, but Dr. Yuval Noah Harari breaks the mold with this highly original book. From examining the role evolving humans have played in the global ecosystem to charting the rise of empires, Sapiens integrates history and science to reconsider accepted narratives, connect past developments with contemporary concerns, and examine specific events within the context of larger ideas.

Robert Iger became CEO of The Walt Disney Company in 2005, during a difficult time. Competition was more intense than ever, and technology was changing faster than at any time in the company’s history. His vision came down to three clear ideas: Recommit to the concept that quality matters, embrace technology instead of fighting it, and think bigger - think global - and turn Disney into a stronger brand in international markets.

Or to look back on Earth from outer space and see the surprisingly precise line between day and night? Or to stand in front of the Hubble Space Telescope, wondering if the emergency repair you're about to make will inadvertently ruin humankind's chance to unlock the universe's secrets? Mike Massimino has been there, and in Spaceman he puts you inside the suit.

Mike tells a great story with an outstanding audio performance. I liked his fine details that sometimes got me to hold my breath as I waited for what’s going to happen next. His journey is a lesson in GRIT and gives a behind the scenes in an astronaut journey from the ground to 350 miles up. Highly recommend!
