The only podcast I HAVE to listen to every week
Revisado: 08-29-22
Some of the topics sound super interesting, some of the topics sound super dull. Somehow I'm drawn in to every single episode. Jimmy not only teaches about a topic using sound scientific methods, as well as teaches about the faith through a lens of something "mysterious" about our world, but in doing so, he also teaches how to be an amateur scientist and apologist by breaking down his method of exploration which in turn teaches us how to be better citizens of our universe.

Historia
What would the world look like if everybody had everything they wanted or needed? Trekonomics, the premier book in financial journalist Felix Salmon's imprint PiperText, approaches scarcity economics by coming at it backward - through thinking about a universe where scarcity does not exist. Delving deep into the details and intricacies of 24th-century society, Trekonomics explores post-scarcity and whether we, as humans, are equipped for it.

Interesting evaluation and fun exploration.

Story: You will like this book best if you've taken at least an intro economics class in high school or college and are familiar with the first 4 series of Star Trek and the first 9 movies. There are many references to minor characters and basic economic principles that are not explained for reader that doesn't already have a solid background.
The book is only slightly about the economics of a civilization post-scarcity (as it is advertised). It is instead a fun dissection of all the economics of the main Trek series and a fun romp through the history of Star Trek. When you take it as it is, it is an enjoyable and informative read.
Performance: The reader was just ok. Clear and easy to listen to. His mispronunciations of names is very distracting. Certain Trek names like Garak could be forgiven, but his ongoing mispronunciation of current American figures, economists, and famous authors can not.

Historia
Inspirational and magical, here is the story of a boy who grows up determined to save the world from its most savage ecological predator: Man himself. "What the hell do you want?" snarled Frogman at Raff Cody, as the boy stepped innocently onto the reputed murderer's property. Fifteen years old, Raff, along with his older cousin, Junior, had only wanted to catch a glimpse of Frogman's 1,000-pound alligator. Thus, begins the saga of Anthill....

You just have to love ants

A surprising delight
Revisado: 10-15-16
What made the experience of listening to Anthill the most enjoyable?
I almost stopped listening in the first 2 minutes due to the narrators terrible accents. I kept on however knowing that I really wanted to read this and wouldn't have time for the physical book for months. Eventually the narrator's horrible, and at times insulting, accents subsided from painfully grating to mildly annoying.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Anthill?
I loved the "honors thesis" section that was a natural history of ants while drawing a parallel to the people in the book. The end of the book left my head reeling.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Kevin T. Collins?
Collins was fine when he wasn't doing the accents.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
We're all ants, each playing our role.
