Historia
Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

Good read stick with it
Revisado: 02-26-23
I have to say that after reading about half this book, I thought does this kid live? a very good story about a very bad life and the way Demon makes it through it. Stick with it, it does have a good ending.

Historia
Cold Storage, Alaska, is a remote fishing outpost where salmonberries sparkle in the morning frost and where you just might catch a King Salmon if you're Zen enough to wait for it. Settled in 1935 by Norse fishermen who liked to skinny dip in its natural hot springs, the town enjoyed prosperity in the mid-20th century, at the height of the frozen fish boom. But now the cold storage plant is all but abandoned and the population is shrinking every day.

Lived in Alaska? You'll LOVE this book!
Revisado: 02-18-17
What did you love best about Cold Storage, Alaska?
The characters that live in the town of Cold Storage, very believable.
What other book might you compare Cold Storage, Alaska to and why?
Tom Bodett's books on Homer are similar but Straley is more gritty in his prose.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I'm ready for the third book about Cold Storage, AK. Love these characters. I really like that all the bad guys end up revenged but okay. Very different philosophy but I like it.

Historia
Nestled in the bucolic town of Green Valley in upstate New York, the Pennywort farm appears ordinary, yet at its center lies something remarkable: a wild maze of colorful gardens that reaches beyond the imagination. Local legend says that a visitor can gain answers to life's most difficult problems simply by walking through its lush corridors. Yet the labyrinth has never helped Olivia Pennywort, the garden's beautiful and enigmatic caretaker.

Disappointing file under Harlequin romance
Revisado: 06-06-15
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
A push me pull you, straddle the fence, story with heavy angst is not a quality read for me.
What was most disappointing about Lisa Van Allen’s story?
The night garden that's magical is a good enticement to the story but unforuntely the story is totally NOT about that.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Night Garden?
Most of them
