Historia
The name's John Taylor. I work the garish streets of the Nightside - the hidden heart of London where it's always three a.m., where inhuman creatures and otherworldly gods walk side by side in the endless darkness of the soul. I have a talent for finding things. People...property...no problem. But now I'm after something different. A local diva called the Nightingale has cut herself off from her family and friends, and I've been hired to find out the reason. I'm also wondering why her suicide-prone fans think she has a voice to die for. Literally.

Enjoying the world and the story, could lose the slight transphobia
Revisado: 04-09-25
I'm greatly enjoying the world this is set in, always finding more unexpected and creative ideas, some more gruesome than others.
The build up of mystery surrounding John's parentage is excellent.
This book did include a lengthy scene in a night club with drag queen performers (I think?), who were referred to repeatedly as "trannies". It felt relatively clear that there wasn't an intention to be transphobic, but it was just a bit too much.
Also, every. single. time. there's a mention of John third eye, the phrase "his third eye, his private eye" appears. It was also a bit too much.

Historia
Nathaniel Bainbridge is used to hiding, whether it's concealing his struggles with reading or his forbidden desire for men. Under the thumb of his controlling father, the governor of Primrose Isle, he's sailing to the fledging colony, where he'll surrender to a respectable marriage for his family's financial gain. Then pirates strike and he's kidnapped for ransom by the Sea Hawk, a legendary villain of the New World. Bitter and jaded, Hawk harbors futile dreams of leaving the sea for a quiet life, but men like him don't deserve peace. He has a score to settle with Nathaniel's father.

Delightful and surprising
Revisado: 02-02-25
Rhe thing I enjoyed the most about this book was that it was unexpected. if we were to judge the book by its cover, its name, even a short description - it seems a rather cliche story.
But in reality it was filled with surprises, pain and tenderness, the dangers of pride and judgmentalism, the importance and freedom of living one's truth, love, friends and family, loyalty and work ethic, pride and joy of life.
It's one of those books that I think I will be getting a physical copy of, just so I can mark it up with passages I loved.

Historia
From high school up until he became a successful attorney, Jacob Snowden was convinced that love had it out for him. "Everyone left" were the words he lived by. His mother, his high school sweetheart, his father, and his fiancé - they all left Jacob just when he felt it was safe to let down his guard. Not any longer. Jacob was a determined man, set at keeping people at a distance. If his six-foot-one, military-made body didn't scare people off, his permanent scowl surely did.

Amazing backstory!
Revisado: 12-29-24
I don't think I have read a better written backstory for years!
A history of one of the main characters that actually demonstrates what built his character, what shaped his personality. It was hard and painful, and real and relatable for that reason.
Something he said towards the end of the book was an exact summary of what I think we can learn from it - "loving X has made me the man I was meant to be".
I loved this story so much, it was beautiful and heartwarming and I am definitely going to read all the rest of the books A.E.Via has to offer!

Robin Loxleigh and his sister Marianne are the hit of the Season, so attractive and delightful that nobody looks behind their pretty faces. Until Robin sets his sights on Sir John Hartlebury's heiress niece. The notoriously graceless baronet isn't impressed by good looks, or fooled by false charm. He's sure Robin is a liar - a fortune hunter, a card sharp, and a heartless, greedy fraud - and he'll protect his niece, whatever it takes.

A great read!
Revisado: 11-09-24
I haven't yet read the books describing the world this book is set in, but it suffered not at all for that.
I thoroughly enjoyed the three main characters and the fun, creative, sometimes absurd dialogue.
The casual, obvious references to a world where whoever you are or whoever you love is just part of life everywhere is just the best

But when Amanda breaks her leg in a riding accident, she's forced to recuperate at Rookwood Hall, where Sir Philip is hosting the Murder. Guy rushes to protect her, but the Murder aren't what he expects. Sir Philip turns out to be charming, kind - and dangerously attractive.

Steamy, hilarious and heartwarming
Revisado: 10-26-24
I utterly adored this book. The characters are so much fun and diverse, the depth of friendship and love described filled me with so much warmth and satisfaction. I wish there was more of their loving companionship to lavish in.
I'd even enjoy tales of Amanda and David (despite being unfortunately hetero *wink*), because they were delightful and associated with the four sided triangle. Perhaps also because Amanda is amazing and capable and brave. And as a Jew, I'd love to read more about her and David's journey.
It felt like a gift, to be able to see and be part of the private paradise they created.
I'll definitely be revisiting.

Delightful and emotional
Revisado: 10-15-24
This third book in the series was worth positively everything. I had to stop bookmarking because there was just too much perfection.
Heart-wrenching in the best way, punched me in the feels left and right. I wish I could read it again and again (I will no doubt), to I could go on a d on, but my notes are too extensive and full of spoilers.
I love it and and immediately looking into investing in a physical copy to lovingly earmark and highlight.

Saul knows it's a lot of nonsense except that he begins to find himself in increasingly strange and frightening situations. The only question for Randolph is whether Saul is victim or villain.

Delightful!
Revisado: 10-08-24
Such a feel-good book, I absolutely loved it! I'll be purchasing the next ones immediately!
The characters are flawed and in-keeping with their own voices and characteristics, I want to know more about those who are only mentioned, I need to know more about the world we're in a d the arcane.
I laughed out loud more than once while listening/reading and appreciate so much when I find dialogue that is written well enough to do that.
The hot, bossy sex is just superb, with adorable, flowery, era appropriate romance.
