Robert E. Lee was many things - accomplished soldier, military engineer, college president, family man, agent of reconciliation, polarizing figure. He was also a person of deep Christian conviction. In this biography of the famous Civil War general, R. David Cox shows how Lee's Christian faith shaped his crucial role in some of the most pivotal events in American history.

I got this book as a free gift download, but it was one of the best short stories I have ever heard. Would have gladly paid for such a well-crafted and engaging story that unfolds so quickly and is over far too quickly. Take a listen. The host of Fox News Channel’s Tucker Carlson Tonight offers a blistering critique of the new American ruling class, the elites of both parties, who have taken over the ship of state, leaving the rest of us, the citizen-passengers, to wonder: How do we put the country back on course?

Conservative or Libertarian Commonsense
Revisado: 11-12-18
Tucker Carlson is like chocolate cake. You either love him or loathe him. For someone with conservative or libertarian principles like me, this book is a breath of fresh air and a huge dose of common sense. This book is well-researched, powerful, and filled with real-world examples of why many of us think that the politically correct group think of today is not only wrong but destructive. The fools at the tiller of the ship of state need to pay heed to the lessons of this well-written and engaging book read by the author himself. #Conservative #Political #TuckerCarlson #History #Commonsense #Tagsgiving #Sweepstakes

A Gem From Tom Shippey
Revisado: 11-12-18
Thomas Shippey is one of the greatest teachers of fantasy, Norse Mythology, and all things J.R.R. Tolkien and CS Lewis. This course shows his genius as he lifts some of the most heroic and influential fictional characters out of literature. Shippey is insightful, interesting, and NEVER boring. If you get one course in your Audible library, this one should be the one! This would be a great study for anyone interested in writing to aid in character creation. #Insightful #Brilliant #Stirring #Heroic #Tagsgiving #Sweepstakes

The Return of the King is the towering climax to J. R. R. Tolkien’s trilogy that tells the saga of the hobbits of Middle-earth and the great War of the Rings. In this concluding volume, Frodo and Sam make a terrible journey to the heart of the Land of the Shadow in a final reckoning with the power of Sauron. In addition to narrating the prose passages, Rob Inglis sings the trilogy’s songs and poems a capella, using melodies composed by Inglis and Claudia Howard, the Recorded Books studio director.

So Much Better Than the Movie
Revisado: 11-12-18
Peter Jackson's outstanding adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle Earth Trilogy on the big screen will probably never been excelled in the medium of film. But Jackson, for all his genius, cannot hold a candle to the masterpiece that is preserved for us in the Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and especially in the Return of the King. Tolkien literally wrote the book on modern fantasy and this work is his greatest masterwork. You will laugh, cry, and in the end cheer for this literary tour de force. Rob Inglis does a remarkable job in making this book come to life...although his singing can be a little weak. Still, the pronunciations, the character creation, and his dramatic reading make this book my favorite of the Trilogy. The Appendixes and the Annals of the Kings are worth the price of the book and they are included for FREE. #Fantasy #Tolkien #MiddleEarth #Frodolives #Endofthe3rdage #Tagsgiving #Sweepstakes

Revisado: 11-12-18
Michael York's delightful narration of C.S. Lewis' classic children's book (for Adult Kids too) is a treasure and a treat. York is as British as they come and with his skillful vocal weavings, you can find yourself once again in Narnia, that magic land beyond Spareoom, near Wardrobe...I have several versions of this charming classic but York's is by far the best. #Fantasy #Childrens #Christian #Adventure #Classic #Tagsgiving #Sweepstakes

A Must For C S Lewis Fans
Revisado: 11-12-18
C. S. Lewis comes alive again in Alister McGrath's wonderful biography! Based on new manuscript research and detailed readings of Lewis' letters and writings, McGrath has opened the soul of the most reluctant convert to Christianity in England and one of the greatest apologists for his newfound faith. McGrath sheds light on the mysterious relationship between Lewis and his dear friend's mother (Mrs. Moore) who was old enough to be his own mother. Reverential but not hagiographic, this book is a must for anyone who will understand one of the most wonderful writers/thinkers/apologists of the last century. I highly recommend it! #CSLewis #Biography #Apologetics #Thinkers #Christians #Tagsgiving #Sweepstakes

In every generation, the Christian church must interpret and restate its bedrock beliefs, answering the challenges and concerns of the day. In Know the Creeds and Councils: Audio Lectures, priest and author Justin Holcomb explores centuries of creeds, councils, catechisms, and confessions - not with a dry focus on dates and places, but with an emphasis on the living tradition of Christian belief and why it matters for our lives today.

Not Your Average Audiobook
Revisado: 11-12-18
Justin Holcomb does not read us his book on the Creeds and Councils of the Early Christian Church, but rather he gives us an excellent summary of the material in the book and gives more detail than could be included in the book. You should buy both. The book is a great summary of the Creeds and Councils and the audiobook fills out the corners so to speak. His delivery could be a little more interesting. Sometimes he sounds like he is simply reading from a page, but the material is interesting and useful. The Creeds of the Church were brief statements of doctrine designed for use in worship, rituals (such as baptism) or education (such as new convert classes) in a time when the majority of the people were illiterate and/or did not own a Bible. The Councils were the meetings of Church officials to iron out doctrinal and practical differences. This book makes both very understandable. #Christianity #ChurchHistory #Doctrine #Historicaldocuments #Educational #Tagsgiving #Sweepstakes

A Real treasure on a Neglected Time
Revisado: 08-06-18
The War with Mexico, just prior to the American Civil War, is one of the most interesting and least known chapters of American history. Many of the figures of this war would be the commanders and leaders of the Civil War. They learned the art of war in this event. This book is a great prequel to this tragic time. Told around Robert E. Lee, U.S. Grant, James Longstreet, George Pickett and Winfield Scott, this book is a gem! I highly recommend it.

Historia
Finding God can be difficult even in times of joy. But consider the times - and profound sorrows - of Abraham Lincoln. His beloved mother died a painful death before Abe’s tenth birthday. His father was abusive when the man wasn’t absent entirely. Abraham was so beset by depression that he neared suicide on numerous occasions. He lost one son when the boy was the tender age of three. A second was eleven when he died, and this was less than a year after Lincoln assumed the presidency of a fractured nation.

Revealing Lincoln's Soul
Revisado: 06-21-16
As a Christian and a pastor, I have long chafed under the historical illiteracy which attempts to wrap the cloak of sainthood around the brooding figure of Abraham Lincoln. Well-meaning people have attempted to make Lincoln a Christ-like figure, loving, forgiving, kind, wise, and godly. This is the first work I have read that gets the story right. The author is frank and honest to admit that Lincoln was "the village atheist" in New Salem, having rejected the 'hard shell" Calvinism of his father, and the wild excesses of the Baron Stone Camp Meetings.
But Lincoln's story proves infinitely more complex. Through the death of two of his sons, his own mental condition of depression which left him suicidal, and his wife's mental instability, Lincoln gradually moved toward the Christian faith.
With great historical skill, the author pulls back the cover on a very complicated man's troubled struggle with the fact his mother was illegitimate and the fact that he could not bring himself to understand the deity of Christ. In the end, the bullet of Booth shattered his brain and ended his battle with God. From the author's research, we find tantalizing hints of what might have been Lincoln's intention to profess faith, but the truth is we shall never know until this life is ended. To anyone who wants to know the truth, I commend this excellent little work. #Lincoln #Christianfaith #AmericaCivilWar #InfidelityvsFaith #Tagsgiving #Sweepstakes
