Fun conclusion to the trilogy. Forewarning, it does use the word cr*p a lot, which is not a word we liked hearing in a children’s book. There is also the space equivalent of a mail order bride type character, who latches onto two different men for personal advantage, and gets called a hussy. Some slapping from Big Mama to her idiot son Krat.

Excellent depiction of personal growth, boy-girl friendship without it turning romantic, cooperation between different aged people. Overall good messages about building a cooperative society, vs one based on exploitation. Fun science information woven in.

My kids loved this trilogy.

Some inspiring ideas, some obnoxious comments on religion

Cons: -squeamish people will hate the first two minutes, describing a brain surgery. Several other sections like that.
-References to sleeping with many women and throwing away their numbers. Kind of a humblebrag.
-A number of obnoxious comments regarding religion, for example positing that his personal religion of compassion is better than religions that have a God who sits in judgment. That’s not a fair characterization of how Christians at least see God.
-I felt like he overemphasized his childhood difficulties. Not that they weren’t terrible, but the constant references back to them later in the book felt a bit grating.

Pros: -some really helpful ideas regarding meditation, visualization, and goal setting with your heart in the right place.
-Some of the book drags, but there are quite a few sections where the story telling is good.
-the section on his financial loss is particularly good.

This was a compelling story, but I was taken aback by some of the language, mainly the word crap/crappy, which came up about a half dozen times. We listened to this with the whole family, so I wasn’t expecting off-color words. Otherwise, great story and performance.

This was a great shot in the arm for someone who knows pretty much what to do, but fails to follow through very well. I'm Catholic, but think the book would be 90% on message for a non-Catholic, and WAY DEEPER than most Christian books of this sort. I'd listen to it at 1.25 speed, as the pace was a tad slow.

What disappointed you about The Story of a Soul: The Autobiography of St. Therese of Lisieux?

The story is a classic--obviously. However, this performance was so bad that I couldn't bear more than 5 minutes. I returned it. She drew out words to more syllables than you could believe (God became Gah-ah-ad). Strangely robotic.
