Bentley is in elite company as one of the handful of military thriller authors with a true gift for writing fully developed characters AND thrilling action, while incorporating bleeding edge technology and geopolitics. Flashpoint is an ambitious novel, because it tackles the highly kinetic and rapidly evolving East Asian theater. The book's title is both thematic and prescient, because the South China Sea and Taiwan straight are a tinderbox for naval engagement that could escalate rapidly out of control—which sets an undercurrent of tension and suspense throughout the entire novel.

The other aspect of this book that Clancy fans will love is Junior's continued evolution as a leader. Bentley has done a masterful job of taking the younger Ryan on a journey, from a inwardly focused, occasional hot head with an almost pathological need to step out of his father's shadow, to a man who is comfortable in his own skin and trusts his instincts. I think his relationship with Liasanne is part of that growth as Jack starting to recognize the importance of family and the values he's actually fighting for.

This review barely scratches the surface of the multiple layers and themes Bentley has working in this latest installment, which is a PERFECT Clancy thriller!

A science fiction masterpiece addressing ethical, geopolitical, and existential questions that humanity must collectively face in the real world. Porter's narration is phenomenal and the characters Weir penned are both flawed and inspiring. The novel deserves the accolades and 4.9 rating it has with 50K reviews.

I selected this book after reading Homo Deus, a profound book that left me intellectually comatose with nihilism. This well crafted philosophical exploration of purpose and being was a life preserver but... I m left wishing for more. It deserves a second and maybe third read. Thank you Mr Peterson for your courage and insight. Thank you for being a candle in a world of candle snuffers.
