Historia
Jeff Krasno, the founder and CEO of the global wellness platform Commune Media, thought he was pretty healthy. Though he suffered from brain fog, chronic fatigue, and bouts of insomnia, those symptoms seemed utterly normal in today’s society. When he learned he had diabetes, his first thought was, How can that be? I run a wellness company! His diagnosis propelled him to consult every expert at his disposal and engage in intensive “me-search” in order to turn his health around. On this journey, he began to form a larger picture of what’s wrong with our health in the modern world.

Almost everything you need to know re: good life
Revisado: 04-10-25
I learned about Jeff Krasno from Rich Roll podcast. One way to learn of people in the know. Near the beginning of the podcast, Rich Roll told Jeff Krasno he really liked his writing style. As the conversation continued, it was clear Jeff Krasno had more than writing style to contribute to anyone interested in getting the most out of daily living, in every way. I pre-ordered his new book "Good Stress" and added the Audible to my library. You will need both, in my opinion.
1) The Audible so you can enjoy listening while learning (he is author and narrator and gets 5 stars for both!)
2) I do the Kindle book in order to be able to highlight, add bookmarks and notes and easily head to the internet on anything in the book to learn in greater detail.
Near the end of the book for my first time through. How many more reads and listens? Don't know, other than many more. Much to learn. Just finished the chapter on Rewilding where he pointed out a simple (well not so simple ... try it) part of his daily regimen, the squat. While I have always had a rigorous and varied daily exercise routine, mostly outdoors, I will add the squat because I think it just might help with a recent challenge ... some lower back stiffness/pain and therefore posture. And therefore, "the good life" at almost 70 young years! You can't go wrong by adding both books to your library. Oh, and while this will likely be something you would never consider doing, add a cold shower to your morning wakeup routine if you want to feel super charged and mentally alert during your day. He'll even explain why, in a creative and entertaining way.

Historia
A rarely frank account of the US infantry experience in northern Europe, A Foot Soldier for Patton takes the listener from the beaches of Normandy through the giddy drive across France to the brutal battles on the Westwall, in the Ardennes, and finally to the conquest of Germany itself. Patton's army is best known for dashing armored attacks; its commander combining the firepower of tanks with their historic lineage as cavalry. But when the Germans stood firm, the greatest fighting was done by Patton's long undersung infantry.

I've learned new aspects of world war II from this account and story. I will also therefore purchase the Kindle version so that I can explore and learn at greater depth. it's amazing he came out the other side considering all that he did during world war II. I am grateful for his in every veterans service to our country and to my existence.

In the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election, Donald Trump and many around him, including certain other elected Republican officials, intentionally breached their oath to the Constitution: they ignored the rulings of dozens of courts, plotted to overturn a lawful election, and provoked a violent attack on our Capitol.

Isn't it obvious?
Revisado: 02-29-24
I don't understand how the Trump menace is not obvious to a large majority of Americans, no matter party affiliation. I recently finished "The Constitution of Knowledge" so I get that healthy debate and diverse opinion is important. I know many intelligent, kind, giving, caring and principled people, some in high places, that voted for Trump in 2016 (Trump has none of these qualities). From what I can deduce, they are voting Republican; towing the party line no matter what. But what if the "party line" is a genuine threat to our constitutional federal republic? I currently live in the South. So far, I do not see the Trump signs and banners that I saw in 2016, but we once again see Trump has decimated the Republican candidates. He is a pig with lipstick and the Republican party is again falling in line, deceived by the lipstick. I am a grandfather with a single vote, but know the stakes are high. I had better find the best way to get involved. Cheney for President as a competent "leader" of the Republican party vs. Independent, would have my support and vote. I hope this book goes viral.

Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

Great end of summer read
Revisado: 09-18-22
The plot kept me interested to the end. I also have rowing in my past and the single shell in my lake boathouse calls to me this fall and winter as the power boat traffic diminishes. I no longer fight my chronotype, which is afternoon/evening vs. early morning). Time to re-capture the magic of rowing. I continued to pull for Zott's uniqueness of individuality. She creates her world and sticks to it. Others predictably fall in line, to their benefit. Bravo Zott. Great ending.

Historia
Introduction to Sailing is veteran sailor Christian Williams’ candid and highly entertaining invitation to boats and the sea. Writing for new sailors of every kind, he evokes the joy of wind and water in an intimate style that begins with dinghies, which he advocates as most fun of all, and continues through cruising boats small and large and for every budget.

Interested in sailing?
Revisado: 09-09-22
Great approach to an "Introduction". Learning to sail and about boats, like most anything, requires that we get busy doing. There are many approaches to the doing process, which this Introduction to Sailing covers in a unique way. Christian's books and videos are entertaining and informative. This introduction worked for me because he covers the big picture experience from size of sail boats to casual vs. competitive sailing for the novice to the team or solo sailing in a variety of weather conditions. Helps to know he has been there done that. I was fortunate growing up to have a father whose hobby was navigation and sailing. He started small and eventually partnered on a 30' Grampian before moving to a 34'. Many, many interesting stories/experiences including a final family sail excursion to the BVI's before us kids ... moved on. I personally would not be interested in owning a sail boat, but am definitely interested in crewing, which I did after graduating college. Thinking of doing this again on the eave of retirement. What better way to get fresh air, travel, meet new people, have new adventures and learn new lessons ... from mother nature.

Spanning the years 1940 to 1965, Defender of the Realm, the third volume of William Manchester’s The Last Lion, picks up shortly after Winston Churchill became prime minister - when his tiny island nation stood alone against the overwhelming might of Nazi Germany. The Churchill portrayed by Manchester and Reid is a man of indomitable courage, lightning-fast intellect, and an irresistible will to action.

Have you ever wanted to visit Machu Picchu, or witness the Northern Lights? To explore remote landscapes where no boot has tread, no shutter ever snapped? You can.... Before he became Green Giant on the Appalachian Trail, Gary Sizer was a Marine, a computer nerd, and a guy with a problem. No matter how much time he spends outside, it's never enough. Whether being thrashed by drill instructors at Parris Island or drenched by a squall in a high tundra, the same calming thought always prevailed: It's good to be outside.
