I wasn’t sure that I would care for the style but it captured my attention after only a couple of minutes and I listened whenever possible until I finished the book.

Written by Naoki Higashida, a very smart, very self-aware, and very charming thirteen-year-old boy with autism, The Reason I Jumpis a one-of-a-kind memoir that demonstrates how an autistic mind thinks, feels, perceives, and responds in ways few of us can imagine. Parents and family members who never thought they could get inside the head of their autistic loved one at last have a way to break through to the curious, subtle, and complex life within.

A must read for anyone who works with young people
Revisado: 12-10-24
What a fascinating and illuminating book. I think that anyone who teaches should listen to or read this book. It was so illuminating to hear this young man's thoughts and articulation of what it is like to be him. I am grateful that I have been fortunate to find and listen to this book.

Incredibly disappointed!!
Revisado: 12-10-24
This was one of my favorite fun books and was looking forward to listening to this book and getting the rest of them. I couldn't even get past the first few chapters. The narrator sounded like he was reading to a first grade class. His cadence never improved and his accents were inconsistent and made no sense. Durnik sounded like a cabbie.
I wish the book had another narrator. What a bummer.

Historia
With the same emotional generosity and effortlessly compelling storytelling that made All Over But the Shoutin’ a beloved bestseller, Rick Bragg continues his personal history of the Deep South. This time he’s writing about his grandfather Charlie Bundrum, a man who died before Bragg was born but left an indelible imprint on the people who loved him. Drawing on their memories, Bragg reconstructs the life of an unlettered roofer who kept food on his family’s table through the worst of the Great Depression

Loved it, and was upset to hear, at the end, that it was abridged
Revisado: 02-01-23
Rick Bragg does a wonderful job narrating his book. I enjoyed it tremendously. I would not, however, have purchased it if I had known that it was abridged.

Historia
In 2001, a community of people in the Appalachian foothills had come to the edge of all they had ever been. Across the South, padlocks and chains bound the doors of silent mills, and it seemed a miracle to blue-collar people in Jacksonville, Alabama, that their mill still bit, shook, and roared. The mill had become almost a living thing, and they served it even as it filled their lungs with lint and shortened their lives. In return, it let them live in stiff-necked dignity in the hills of their fathers.

Georgette Heyer remains an enduring international best seller, read and loved by four generations of readers and extolled by today's best-selling authors. Despite her enormous popularity, she never gave an interview or appeared in public. Georgette Heyer wrote her first novel, The Black Moth, when she was 17 in order to amuse her convalescent brother. It was published in 1921 to instant success, and 90 years later it has never been out of print.

Fascinating to meet the woman behind the delightful books. Ms. Kloester did her research and Georgette Heyer comes alive. As always, Phyllida Nash is a perfect narrator.

Historia
This is the real world of modern Karachi as seen through the eyes of a young woman in an elite family. Here are the hidden dramatic realities of the upper class, the undertow of religion, revealing the truth sometimes spoken in hushed whispers, more often swept away by the flourish of silk saris at extravagant dinner parties...or perhaps never mentioned at all.
