Historia
In 2014, Theranos founder and CEO Elizabeth Holmes was widely seen as the next Steve Jobs: a brilliant Stanford dropout whose startup “unicorn” promised to revolutionize the medical industry with its breakthrough device, which performed the whole range of laboratory tests from a single drop of blood. Backed by investors such as Larry Ellison and Tim Draper, Theranos sold shares in a fundraising round that valued the company at more than $9 billion, putting Holmes’s worth at an estimated $4.5 billion.

Grifters and charlatans
Revisado: 12-26-18
Learning how several large corporations, former world leaders including James Mattis, one of the country’s top lawyers, and hundreds of workers were hoodwinked by a sham “genius” is eye-opening. Rupert Murdock is an unlikely hero, in that he allows this reporter to publish damning stories about a company o which he was the largest individual investor. Troubling that whether this sorry came to light depended on the constancy of a twenty-something young man with a conscience, Tyler Schultz. A pity his board member grandfather trusted the sham more than him!

Historia
In 1922, Count Alexander Rostov is deemed an unrepentant aristocrat by a Bolshevik tribunal, and is sentenced to house arrest in the Metropol, a grand hotel across the street from the Kremlin. Rostov, an indomitable man of erudition and wit, has never worked a day in his life, and must now live in an attic room while some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history are unfolding outside the hotel’s doors. Unexpectedly, his reduced circumstances provide him entry into a much larger world of emotional discovery.

Lovable characters, lots of plot, charming but deep

Refreshingly literate and positive reply to Noir modes of so many modern novels. Manages
to be heartwarming, even funny, while acknowledging darkest times of Soviet Union and Bolshevik Revolution. Outstanding reading reinforces all the novels virtues. Truly enjoyable.

Historia
Alexander von Humboldt (1769-1859) was an intrepid explorer and the most famous scientist of his age. His restless life was packed with adventure and discovery, whether climbing the highest volcanoes in the world or racing through anthrax-infested Siberia. He came up with a radical vision of nature, that it was a complex and interconnected global force and did not exist for man's use alone. Ironically, his ideas have become so accepted and widespread that he has been nearly forgotten.

As an environmentalist (attorney for enviro org), I loved learning the origin of some of my most cherished understandings of how the world works. Incredible amount of information gracefully presented and connected. Historical context invaluable. I am giving this book, hardcover, to the beloved scientist in my life.also, I liked enough to review it, very rare for me.

Historia
This fascinating audiobook is the first volume in a projected cultural history of the United States, from the earliest English settlements to our own time. It is a history of American folkways as they have changed through time, and it argues a thesis about the importance for the United States of having been British in its cultural origins. While most people in the United States today have no British ancestors, they have assimilated regional cultures which were created by British colonists, even while preserving ethnic identities at the same time.

Historia
In 1925, young Teddy goes for a walk with his Aunt Izzie. He tries to share his love and knowledge of things in nature with her, but she does not seem interested. Teddy is upset by the fact that Izzie claims to have eaten a skylark. Izzie asks him questions about his likes and dislikes. She later uses his answers to write a series of books loosely based on him even though the main character is nothing like Teddy. Teddy hates the books and the fact that they are dedicated to him.

This piece is worthless . A caricature. So bad I am bothering to review it. An insult to the author.
