Historia
England, 1835. London is awash with thrilling new ingredients, from rare spices to exotic fruits. But no one knows how to use them. When Eliza Acton is told by her publisher to write a cookery book instead of the poetry she loves, she refuses - until her bankrupt father is forced to flee the country. As a woman, Eliza has few options. Although she’s never set foot in a kitchen, she begins collecting recipes and teaching herself to cook. Much to her surprise, she discovers a talent - and a passion - for the culinary arts.

Poetic and savory
Revisado: 02-17-22
You will be delighted by the poetic and culinary goodness to be found in this book. Partly a novel of friendship, partly a book of the delicious nature of creating foods designed to entice the palate. A wonderful read!

Excellent Writing That Makes You Think
Revisado: 01-22-22
What a wonderful book by this amazing author, Mitch Albom. His books are always pushing me to think, feel and wonder more deeply about my beliefs. The fact that the author also narrates the novel only adds to the experience. It will stay with me!

Callander Square is the second of Anne Perry's Charlotte and Thomas Pitt mysteries. Full of well-drawn and convincing characters, Callander Square offers a finely crafted recreation of Victorian England. The bodies of two newborn babies have been found in a park in the fashionable London neighborhood of Callander Square.

Revisado: 01-08-22
I am so enjoying the detailed descriptions of Victorian England's upper class, their deceit, depravity and arrogance, set against the compassion, honesty and normalcy of Inspector Pitt and his wife Charlotte. Excellent narration, as well!

This memoir is laced with wonderful stories about the French character, particularly in the world of food, and the way of life that Julia Child embraced so wholeheartedly. Above all, she reveals the kind of spirit and determination, the sheer love of cooking, and the drive to share that with her fellow Americans that made her the extraordinary success she became.

What a delicious journey of cooking and living!
Revisado: 08-19-20
Julia Child's appetite for food and thirst for living a life full to the brim is presented here. It was inspiring to learn of Child's epiphany as she entered the world of French cuisine and her determination to immerse herself in it. The author does a superb job describing the gorgeous landscapes of post-war Europe, the lively relationships she formed, the rich meals she ate, studied, and wrote about, and the wonderful life she had with her beloved husband Paul.

Love this series !
Revisado: 06-09-20
I love this series so much, and have relished both reading and listening to it! Sue Grafton is one if the all time best authors of a detective series, and I have come to consider her strong, intelligent female P.I. Kinsey Milhone someone I'd like to befriend. In my opinion, narrator Judy Kaye IS Kinsey, and her voice embodies her sarcastic, self-deprecating personality. I am still devastated by Grafton's death, and will always regret the fact that we were robbed of the last Milhone story, Z. Thankfully, I'll be able to reread the series, including Kinsey and Me, the author's book about her main lovable character.

Historia
To Anne Serling, the imposing figure the public saw hosting The Twilight Zone each week, intoning cautionary observations about fate, chance, and humanity, was not the father she knew. Her fun-loving dad would play on the floor with the dogs, had nicknames for everyone in the family, and was apt to put a lampshade on his head and break out in song. He was her best friend, her playmate, and her confidant. After his unexpected death at 50, Anne, just 20, was left stunned.

A Beautiful Tribute to a Wonderful Man
Revisado: 04-12-20
I feel so grateful to have stumbled upon this biography of Rod Serling! I knew him from Twilight Zone and other works, but never knew the man behind the writing. The author, his daughter, gives us a deep and intimate picture of the man, the father, the writer, the activist that he was. I'm deeply moved by his genius, passion, his conviction, and the intense way he lived his life. I have also ordered several of his plays and other writings because I want to dive deeper into the writing, since I'm well-versed in his work for tv. Anne Serling, thank you for laying bare your inner most pain and emotion and allowing us into that private world that you shared with your dad.

Historia
Gloria Norris grew up in the projects of Manchester, New Hampshire, with her parents; her sister, Virginia; and her cat, Sylvester. A snapshot might show a happy young family, but only a dummkopf would buy that. Nine-year-old Gloria is gutsy and wisecracking. Her father, Jimmy, all dazzle and danger, is often on the far side of the law and makes his own rules - which everyone else better follow. Gloria's mom, Shirley, tries not to rock the boat, Virginia unwisely defies Jimmy, and Gloria fashions herself into his sidekick - the son he never had.

A Wondetful Book About a Miserable and Crazy Life
Revisado: 06-25-19
Even as the book became a challenge to read, due to some of the harsh characters and horrible events, I kept stuck with it and am glad I did. The author has such pluck and grit, and came out of a dark childhood able to find humor and love and honor there. My childhood took place just a few years later and 20 minutes down the road, but I could have been on a different planet. Bravo.

Historia
Sam Hill always saw the world through different eyes. Born with red pupils, he was called “Devil Boy” or Sam “Hell” by his classmates; “God’s will” is what his mother called his ocular albinism. Her words were of little comfort, but Sam persevered. Sam believed it was God who sent Ernie Cantwell, the only African American kid in his class, to be the friend he so desperately needed. And that it was God’s idea for Mickie Kennedy to storm into Our Lady of Mercy like a tornado, uprooting every rule Sam had been taught about boys and girls. Forty years later, Sam, a small-town eye doctor, is no longer certain anything was by design.

Fall in love with Sam Hell
Revisado: 02-15-19
This book was a book club recommendation and I am so excited for our meeting this week. If you have a strict Catholic background, you will definitely find some things in the story very relatable. The final message, that our ordinary lives contain so much that is extraordinary, resonates. Read this book! Better yet, listen as the author tells the tale, and fall in love with Sam Hell.
