The acting was extraordinary, the story was rich and really great characters. The relationship between the characters, was believable and natural. An interesting insight into culture and community, that I am not familiar.

Great love story
Revisado: 09-21-19
But I never knew there were so many superlatives in the English language. They lived an interesting life and spoke from the heart. The name dropping was truly part of their story and not to impress. They were monogamist but as they conveyed their tale through the AIDS epidemic they cast no judgments towards individuals that lived a more promiscuous lifestyle. I recommend this book.

Not awful, not good.

If you really want to read a good story about a haunting then read the Haunting of Hill House. The plot is similar but far more engaging.

Really did enjoy this book. I started it and could not turn it off. I enjoyed Dan Brown’s investigation and storytelling relating to mankind’s origin and The shape of mankind’s future. Always a terrific blend of fact, fiction, history and philosophy.

Historia
Since its release in 1949, The Hero with a Thousand Faces has influenced millions of readers by combining the insights of modern psychology with Joseph Campbell's revolutionary understanding of comparative mythology. In this book, Campbell outlines the Hero's Journey, a universal motif of adventure and transformation that runs through virtually all of the world's mythic traditions. He also explores the Cosmogonic Cycle, the mythic pattern of world creation and destruction.

Maybe just stupid
Revisado: 06-08-17
Maybe I'm just stupid. But I don't get why he needs so many stories and his intentions so unclear.
Yes, many cultures tell similar stories. Many textbooks read better than this one. Mr. Campbell is indeed a sort of genius but it is not demonstrated in this book.

The Six Hours and Some Minutes Best I Have Spent.
Revisado: 05-14-17
When I realized, I was gay in 1967 at a very early age... I went to the library's card catalog in St. Paul, Minnesota and searched the catalog under the term homosexuality. I found this book but I was too young and too scared to read it. That has nagged me all these yards that I didn't.
I think it would have been scared out of my mind... This book was ever so sad... And the struggles of these characters I identified with both the younger characters and saw many parallels with my own. Many think, the times that these characters lived in are well pass. Sadly, they aren't. Our times present individuals the same shame, guilt, and pain....
Great read.

So many characters... So many subplots... but worse of all was that the story never really ended only was meant to suck you into the series. Left you with a cliffhanger. I love series but this book was truly unsatisfying.

Historia
The first work of its kind to be written in the English language, The Cloud of Unknowing is a spiritual guide to contemplation from an anonymous English monk of the 14th century. The author explains that ordinary thoughts and earthly concepts must be buried beneath a "cloud of forgetting" while our love must rise toward a God hidden in the "cloud of unknowing".

Great opening for those looking for meaningful worship.
Revisado: 05-30-16
Part One: The Cloud of Unknowing was terrific. Great underpinning for meditative contemplation and wonderful discussion of pride versus humility.
Part Two: Advice to the Privy Council was denser as the author described in the preface
The performance was read a little slow for my preference. However, it allowed me time to consider what was being read.
I do plan to go back and listen to it once again in the future.

This is what I was looking for...
Revisado: 05-24-16
The Book of Job long fascinated me. Having read it once or twice on my own, I wanted to experience it while listening to it. I was a bit worried that the King James Version might be hard to understand but the poetry rang through it.
The reading was wonderful... The performance was excellent without over dramatization. Previous to this I listened to The Book of Job: A Biography. Glad I did, despite it being very academic, that book gave me a terrific insight into the history, versions, and interpretations.
Enjoy.

More Academic than the Actual Text
Revisado: 05-18-16
This book taught me to read the discription closer. From an academic standpoint, this book was excellent. Even though, it was far deeper than I was expecting, the performance was great, as the author's knowledge and the resources he included and explained.
If there is a second edition, I believe future readers would enjoy the actual text being included as a introduction or an appendix.
Overall, I was very satisfied and will be returning to this book again as I become more familiar with the Book of Job.
