Historia
In 2019, author John Green met Henry Reider, a young tuberculosis patient at Lakka Government Hospital in Sierra Leone. John became fast friends with Henry, a boy with spindly legs and a big, goofy smile. In the years since that first visit to Lakka, Green has become a vocal advocate for increased access to treatment and wider awareness of the healthcare inequities that allow this curable, preventable infectious disease to also be the deadliest, killing over a million people every year. In Everything Is Tuberculosis, John tells Henry’s story.

Loved this book
Revisado: 03-19-25
I loved this book and all the amazing hard work the author did to bring the issue of fighting TB to larger audiences. This book is and is not TB, it’s about us humans and everything we hold dear.
Thank you Mr Green for giving me incessant faith in humanity, for your thoughtfulness and kindness.

An exhilarating, twisted tale of desire, suspicion, and obsession between two women staying in the same house in the Dutch countryside during the summer of 1961—a powerful exploration of the legacy of WWII and the darker parts of our collective past.

I was quite unengaged
Revisado: 09-01-24
The narrator sounded too pathetic, and the story is utterly forgettable and dull. I wouldn’t recommend.

Historia
Miranda July’s second novel confirms the brilliance of her unique approach to fiction. With July’s wry voice, perfect comic timing, unabashed curiosity about human intimacy, and palpable delight in pushing boundaries, All Fours tells the story of one woman’s quest for a new kind of freedom. Part absurd entertainment, part tender reinvention of the sexual, romantic, and domestic life of a forty-five-year-old female artist, All Fours transcends expectation while excavating our beliefs about life lived as a woman.

Stunning
Revisado: 05-18-24
This is an absolutely stunning book, a tour de force of self-discovery, self-love, acceptance of one’s fragility, I could go on forever. It’s raw and quirky, funny and eye-opening, very, very authentic.
Thank you Ms. July very much, it’s been a while since I’ve read a book that honest and kind.

Awesomely sad and altogether great
Revisado: 03-14-18
It's a beautiful and unpretentious book about infatuation and attachment, about feelings which are not governed by morale or ethical principles, about times when we just cannot fight them.
The narration is amazing, as well.

Historia
Alex Craft knows how to kill someone. And she doesn't feel bad about it. Three years ago, when her older sister, Anna, was murdered and the killer walked free, Alex uncaged the language she knows best - the language of violence. While her own crime goes unpunished, Alex knows she can't be trusted among other people. Not with Jack, who wants to really know her but still feels guilty over the role he played the night Anna's body was discovered. And not with Peekay, the kid with a defiant streak who befriends Alex while they volunteer at an animal shelter. Not anyone.

YA romance
Revisado: 03-08-18
Honestly, there is nothing brutal about this book. It's a romance story about high school and its highs and lows, and it goes without saying that rape is bad and only terrible people do it and they should rot in hell, thank you very much.

Historia
Set in a beautiful but economically devastated Pennsylvania steel town, American Rust is a novel of the lost American dream and the desperation-as well as the acts of friendship, loyalty, and love-that arise from its loss. From local bars to train yards to prison, it is the story of two young men, bound to the town by family, responsibility, inertia, and the beauty around them, who dream of a future beyond the factories and abandoned homes.

The story seemed really dull and undeveloped, I'm afraid. I'd really enjoyed The Son, and American Rust left me very disappointed by its blandness.

Historia
"It was a beautiful, breezy, yellow-and-green afternoon..." This is how Abby Whitshank always begins the story of how she fell in love with Red that day in July 1959. The Whitshanks are one of those families that radiate togetherness: an indefinable, enviable kind of specialness. But they are also like all families, in that the stories they tell themselves reveal only part of the picture.

not perfect but still an Anne Tyler
Revisado: 03-31-15
Would you try another book from Anne Tyler and/or Kimberly Farr?
the narrator was a bit too dramatical and at times hysterical to my liking, this style doesn't quite suit Anne Tyler's books. they should be softer, I suppose.

Historia
William Henry Devereaux, Jr., spiritually suited to playing left field but forced by a bad hamstring to try first base, is the unlikely chairman of the English department at West Central Pennsylvania University. Over the course of a single convoluted week, he threatens to execute a duck, has his nose slashed by a feminist poet, discovers that his secretary writes better fiction than he does, suspects his wife of having an affair with his dean, and finally confronts his philandering elderly father, the one-time king of American Literary Theory, at an abandoned amusement park.

Any additional comments?
OMG, I've been struggling with this book for what seems like forever. I've been recommended to read it because I like David Lodge's novels about academics, and it is in no way like David Lodge. It's boring, the plot is weak, and the best chapter so far is the very beginning about the dog. Uff.
