Historia
When a joint FBI-Seattle Police investigation of an international child pornography ring gets too close to certain powerful people, sex-crimes detective Livia Lone becomes the target of a hit that barely goes awry - a hit that had been offered to John Rain, a retired specialist in "natural causes." Suspecting the FBI itself was behind the attack, Livia reaches out to former Marine sniper Dox. Together, they assemble an ad hoc group to identify and neutralize the threat. There’s Rain. Rain’s estranged lover, Mossad agent and honeytrap specialist Delilah.

Philosophers and action
Revisado: 10-13-23
The subject, the action, the reflections on life, and the presentation are all top notch. I sometimes forget how good Barry Eisner is, and then I open up an audiobook of his I haven’t listened to; and get blown away how good it is. It doesn’t get better than this. If only real life and politics had closure this good.

Only Mark Greaney can do this
Revisado: 06-05-23
Greaney can light up the action while advancing a very believable story with well developed characters. Ok some action is over the top and relies on luck, but nothing makes me pull the rip-cord for lack of plausibility. Great escapist entertainment that I wish real life would mimic more than the real life bad politicians we live through.

Historia
On his second combat tour, Nick Brokhausen served in Recon Team Habu, CCN. This unit was part of MACV-SOG (Military Assistance Command Vietnam Studies and Observations Group), or Studies and Observations Group as it was innocuously called. The small recon companies that were the center of its activities conducted some of the most dangerous missions of the war, infiltrating areas controlled by the North Vietnamese in Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia. The companies never exceeded more than 30 Americans, yet they were the best source for the enemy's disposition.

Over dramatic in several parts - but could finish it.
Revisado: 07-09-20
I considered rating this a 4 overall but i thought it was a strong 3. It passed the time, i learnedI little about Russia. The end chapters were a bit more boring than the earlier part of the book. A lot of the drama just seemed contrived. The dialog and writing were good, but the overall plotting just left me expecting better. Otherw and you may like it better than i did. The performance was very good.

who needs writers that know anything?
Revisado: 11-11-19
The first scene has the protagonist using a silenced HN57 semi-automatic pistol with sub-sonic ammunition; taking time after the kill to pick up his casings instead of being prepared; worrying about the pulling the trigger on his HN57 and hearing a click. The FN57's claim to fame is firing a bullet at twice the speed of sound to get penetration of body armor. Getting it subsonic certainly requires his own hand loads (No one sells subsonic ammo for the HN57.) Subsonic ammo would not allow the gun to function in semi-automatic. Each round would have to have the slide racked manually, and a pro would use the opportunity to capture the casing, not have it go flying to be picked up manually, assuming he can find it, with a dead guy next to him. He counts his shots to avoid hearing the hammer click on an empty gun. You would never hear the hammer click because it was empty, On the last shot, the slide would have been stuck back waiting for the empty magazine to be replaced with a fresh loaded magazine. You cant release the hammer with the trigger. Geez. this is the first 5 minutes of the book on really eazy concepts. I guess Plausibility, and knowledge of subject matter just don't matter. I'll try to finish it thinking about Maxwell Smart and Agent 99. Hopefully the book can be considered cute juvenile entertainment. Has the author ever been to gun range??? used a silencer? fired subsonic ammunition? What craziness comes next?

Historia
Although it is autumn in the small English town of Bishop’s Lacey, the chapel is decked with exotic flowers. Yes, Flavia de Luce’s sister, Ophelia, is at last getting hitched, like a mule to a wagon. “A church is a wonderful place for a wedding”, muses Flavia, “surrounded as it is by the legions of the dead, whose listening bones bear silent witness to every promise made at the altar.”

The best Flavia since “Sweetness at the Bottom...
Revisado: 09-13-19
The team of Flavia and Dogger come into their own for a great team. I felt that some of the Flavia books went looking for some new approach and they didn’t really find themselves. This one gives up a lot of the fluffy crazy stuff and gets down to good story telling with interesting information. The pre-teen angst has been controlled and meaningful conversations can be had. I hope this is the path for future enjoyable stories well done - and enjoy this book!

Not like the first book
Revisado: 09-07-19
I enjoyed the first book but this one was not as entertaining. It is well written, but this book comes across as more into personalities and emotions than into deeds, and most of the personalities are seriously disturbed people whom I cannot admire. There are some cute gimmicks or clever plans to entertain to the end, but overall the cost to the characters doesn’t lead to the “happy ending “ I prefer for my escapist literature.

A gunnery sargent happy escapist dream
Revisado: 05-12-19
There were several times the plausibility was a bit over the top. Then i realized the author was a retired Gunnery Sargent and it all started making sense as his fantasies come to fictional life. One character dies (well i guess that isn't a spoiler, it is military fiction!) who i didn't think needed to die. i had already accepted this for escapist fiction, but i guess it was necessary to tie every thing up in the end. The Gray Man series by Mark Greaney is much better, and there are several realistic military audiobooks that i would rate higher. But, if you need some military escapist action adventure to tide you over, this will do.
I really like Luke Daniels' narration on multiple audiobooks. Some how i was not a fan of the New York or northeast accent, on some characters, but that may be my own prejudice. It did not get in the way of the book at all and i rated his narration at 5 stars.

Historia
They say it's not the fall that kills you. For Josette Dupre, the Corps' first female airship captain, it might just be a bullet in the back. On top of patrolling the front lines, she must also contend with a crew who doubts her expertise, a new airship that is an untested deathtrap, and the foppish aristocrat Lord Bernat, a gambler and shameless flirt with the military know-how of a thimble. Bernat's own secret assignment is to catalog her every moment of weakness and indecision.

Surprisingly good! Great characters and action!
Revisado: 05-11-19
I'm only a passing steampunk fan and didn't expect much. The good news is that It didnt take much to ignore the dubious parts of alternate universe and slightly over-the-top physics / situations. The better news it was easy to get invested in the characters, and watch the (somewhat predictable) maturing of the main characters. It was really a fun romp with lots of good action, world building, and believable situations. The character's motivation, inner turmoil, and response to war was all quite believable and engaging. The action scenes and decision making, with its associated consequences really made the story and lifts the spirits. It was easy to enjoyed the flawed personalities rising above their flaws. The is great escapist entertainment and this could be easily translated to a high budget film.
The reader, Kate Reading is exceptional as always. I have enjoyed many of her performances. She makes it easy to follow different characters without any confusion.
I look forward to the next in the series and recommend this one to you!

Court Gentry is gonna kick Mark Greaney's butt
Revisado: 04-08-19
Mark Greaney and Jay Snyder make this wild ride both exciting and plausible and the best Gray Man yet. Court Gentry would take out Mark Greaney for all the things Mark dreams up for Court to have to endure and overcome! Poor Court is really put thru the grinder and survives like no one else can. There was one really "oh no!, he's not going to do that to Court Gentry?? How can he survive this??" But in the end, this is the best book yet in the series, and i cant wait for the next book to see if Mark Greaney can top even this book! Jay Snyder is great as always! (I wish i could say the same for the reader in Mark Greaney's other books, but I cant stand Scott Brick.) This is the exciting book you have been waiting for. I won't go into the story, but all the characters are believable and stay in character, (well except for the last surprise you wont see coming. but even that one is worth the addition to the story and the series.)
