What did you love best about The Hydrogen Sonata?

With the Culture novels I always particularly enjoy the Ships and they are central to this story too.

What did you like best about this story?

The interaction between the humans and Ships

Which scene was your favorite?

The one in which the full name of one of the Ships is revealed - perfectly done with maximum impact and enjoyment :)

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I would say that I was most effected by my favourite scene but at many points I found myself pondering the implications of the events and their impact on protagonists and myself in their place alike.

What did you like best about The Ringworld Throne? What did you like least?

For me the constant infatuation with rishathra draws away from the story rather than enhancing it. I realise it is key to the society of Ringworld but this book just repeats the theme almost to the point of a teenage fantasy, maybe the fact I'm married is colouring my view...

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

I immediately downloaded and listened to the next book in the series (I'd read them as a teenager).

What about Paul Michael Garcia’s performance did you like?

Excellent dramatisation and realisation of the characters. I really liked the way he coloured his voices to match the physical reality of the characters.

Do you think The Ringworld Throne needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Yes, and fortunately Larry gave us Ringworld's Children :)

Would you consider the audio edition of Ringworld's Children to be better than the print version?

The narrator did a great job on this, his performance matched my own 'inner voices' for the characters and in this way I think enhanced the audio version over the printed one.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Ringworld's Children?

Discovering the true history of the Ringworld

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Pretty much - in fact I completed it in a couple of days of travelling

Where does Fate of Worlds rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Very good job of winding up the Ringworld stories, including the back stories and side stories introduced throughout the books. Not as awe inspiring as the original Ringworld stories but that's to be expected in this mode of answering the questions rather than trying to raise more.

Real shame about the narration - I know Americans can mangle names (including my own, although funnily enough in exactly the opposite way to this instance) but someone really should have told Tom how to say the main protagonist's name… Other than that glaring inconsistency with the other audible versions of the series he did a fair job (although Hindmost for some reason has a movie trailer style deep voice somewhat incongruous with the character in my, and every other narrator's, view).

Overall, if you like the other Ringworld books then this is a must read/hear.

What other book might you compare Fate of Worlds to and why?

All the Ringworld stories

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Tom Weiner?

Barrett Whitener, he did a great job on Ringworld's Children. And got the name of the main character right...

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No profound feeling of loss or elation one feels at the end of a truly excellent book but rather a sense of conclusion and satisfaction that goes with it.
