This book was recommended to me more than once, so I will blame my high expectations on that.

While the premise started off great, very classic mysteries/suspense, it fell apart maybe halfway through.

I can enjoy the elements of reality-bending but, Eve’s final girl moments were frustrating, counterproductive and weak. This is one of those novels that would have been told better as a short story.

I don’t know, this just wasn’t for me.

A good read. I was a little worried that a large cast would abandon readers like me - readers with no short-term memory. But the author and narrator both did an excellent job of keeping names and relationships upfront while continuing the storyline.

I believe this is my first ride with this author; based on this novel I will likely return.

It has been several years since I have read a novel by Phillip Margolin. It only took me to chapter 3 to remember why.

I don’t have the short term memory capacity to keep up with the host of first and last names Margolin throws into his readers laps; oftentimes by way of a random off-topic tangent or abrupt switch of POV.

I remember this being the case in his Amanda Jaffee series. I didn’t realize she was the main character until Book 2. She, like Rockin Robin here in The Last alibi, got such minimal play time in the story she never stood out much amongst so many others. Being set in the same Oregon state, Amanda makes a brief and underwhelming cameo here as well...

I do enjoy a good legal thriller, but this felt like a short story filled with empty calories to meet a page count minimum. And after 69 chapters I still don’t know the results of the off-duty cop shooting briefly mentioned in Chapter 8. Loose knots all around.

What an amazing woman. I became a fan of Ms. Jenifer Motherfucking Lewis in the early 90s as 7th or 8th grade TV critic. She did a guest appearance on the variety/sketch show “In Living Color” then and I instantly connected with it and her.

Couple years later, in high school, I tried to imitate her character Snookie from the show in after-school drama club.

Anytime Jenifer Lewis’s name appeared on the credits of any film or tv show, my family was on board. Such a long underrated career - She is definitely the Mother of Black Hollywood but is also everybody’s Auntee.

Loud and poignant, philanthropic and comedic. Her story gives voice to living with bipolar disorder, sex addiction, maternal resentments and career highs and lows. Making the reader think and laugh at the same time!

As always, I recommend the audiobook format because only Jenifer can give voice to Jenifer. Amazing woman!
